Thank you pch. It's still very much a work in progress. The main object i had behind it is to not only show how i do an install. But to also show how your can start with a command line install and build up from there only using what you need. Removing as much "bloat" as possible. Not that its severely bloated if you install everything during the initial install. But doing it the way im showing does make it leaner. Just as an example.
Default gnome-desktop install: 530 packages 440mb downloaded requires 1100mb of space.
Gnome-core install: 315 packages 200mb downloaded requires 540mb of space.
Yes "gnome-core" does lack some functionality but it can easily be added as needed without pulling in everything gnome offers.
Light as a feather too. check this out (shortly after installing gnome-core)
Not sure why the cpu is at 14% though. Right now its going between 2 and 4%. Memory usage is at 175mb (90mb of that is iceweasel debian debranded firefox). Have 6 tabs open, text editor open, terminal open, a folder open with about 20 images in it, and system monitor open.
Top output (i dont know the difference between the virtual and resident memory though). No swap used.

Thats coming up soon. Had some issues booting from my usb hard drive and that took me a few days to get sorted. Have tutorial done up through an install of gnome-core. Configuration is coming. Hope to have that done and posted by monday evening. Will just be gnome at first. I plan on adding enlightment and xfce and lastly kde sections in the coming week or so though. That might take some experiment on my part though as ive never used either one in my life.

Let me know if its successful. Try to keep a list of exacatly what packages it installs (including dependencies). If it works i think i might make a "pack" that contains all those packages and keep it updated so if anyone in the future comes across that issue they can just grab the pack instead of downloading the whole dvd.
Fixed my usb boot grub issue too. Had me about to pull my hair out because it would give me "error2". It would boot fine as long as i had the supergrub cd in the drive and used that to boot. But i would have to use it everytime i booted. If i rebooted and took it out i would get error2 again. Used an ultimate edition live dvd and used "boot from first hard disk" and it boot into my debian install just fine. Messed around for liek 3 more hours with different settings in the menu.lst. No luck. Finally i hit "esc" at boot one time. Thats how i get to my bios boot menu (lists all my boot devices) selected my usb drive and bam it booted it just fine. Not sure why i have to do it that way but it boots everytime as long as i select my usb drive from the boot menu.
Several posts added to the tutorial too
