Use at your own risk. This is not for the lite hearted. This is a complete revamp of the system. If you are not that familiar to Ultimate or Linux for that matter, then this tutorial may confuse you and may Bork your system. There is no guarantee that this will work for your PC hardware or that you will be able to complete some of the tasks without running into trouble. I would read through the entire tutorial before attempting to complete it. This way you will have an idea on what you will be doing before you get to it.

This should be very helpful. Thank you very much for spending the time to do all of that.
If I may add(I always have something to say!!).
For good video playback(most codecs supported):
Add Medibuntu: http://www.medibuntu.org/ to your repository list first(update)-don't forget the keyring.
Simply install Totem Xine, remove Totem GStreamer and install libdvdcss2 for encrypted DVD playback support. I use Totem for audio, video and .pls radio streams.
Once you use the Xine backend all your quicktime videos will play smoother.
And do yourself a favor:
Invest in a good sound card and a decent pair of speakers(with a sub woofer) for your PC(or better yet hook it up to a good stereo).

I like one player for everything. It keeps things simple. With Windows I use Winamp and it can play anything including cdg files(karaoke). Most players use the same engines for sound. Amarok is my favorite for organizing an audio collection(but I don't bother). I'm just not a big fan of GStreamer(although it has improved lately). I have a lot of different audio and video files(mpeg1 and 2, mov, mp4, etc) and need something that will play everything I throw at it. VLC will do that, but I don't like the interface.

thank you i will .
i will make test sound for the XBMC,the thing is to give my users the best sound option.
in this point of time "songbird"give hight output in the wma.
so to convert from wma to Linux output it make the work.
that is the point that imported from the CD'S=LP.

Does it have a skin that does't have an X? It is a good media center but is a resource hog(ram and video). If you are only watching a movie great. If you are doing other things at the same time(which I always am) stick with a low resource player like Totem or VLC. How can it be a media center without tv card support?
p.s. Do you work for XBMC, Strider?

When you say,

un-install Totem with the packages from synaptic!
un-install Gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio.
un-install Pulseaudio.

ummm, can you explain what to uninstall in the package manager, I type in totem and 17 things come up, 6 of them are installed(green) or is it just the one named totem and I leave all the other ones with totem like totem-plugin, totem-mozilla, etc.

and when I put in Gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio, I get like a 100 packets, one is named exactly Gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio, is that the only one I should concern myself with.

and Pulseaudio aswell, I just want to know if all I have to uninstall are those 3 and nothing else even if its like, pulseaudio-utils, or totem-plugin. Oh, and is it just mark for removal or mark for complete removal?

Thanks

For now, don't be too concerned with removing anything. If everything works the way you want it, leave it alone till you get more comfortable with the operating system. Some of these procedures are at a more advanced level. Most things should work out of the box. If not we will tackle that as they arise. Baby steps, my boy, baby steps!!! Some of these steps are personal taste and not a necessity.
