Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.7

Drivers,switchable graphics...

Postby yogesh193001 » Sun Feb 27, 2011 9:40 am

hi guys...it took me two days and night to finaly get my hp pavilion dv6 to dual boot UE2.7 and win7, both 64- bit.. in fact, i messed up and crashed the window..and linux also crashed due to the restricted driver updates for my ati radeon graphics...
my problems are;
1) although i tried a lot of things read from the web, like installing gsynaptics etc..removing it and installing the pointing devices thing, i could not get my touch pad to work as i wanted it to.. I wanted it to be smooth, to have the pinching zooming, two fingures thing, just like its works in win 7...

2) I also could not get my finger print reader to work

3) I could not really understand from reading the ati post if i've to install some other drivers to get better performance, or this is the optimum performance?

4) do we have switchable graphics, so as to save power? in windows, catalyst does it, i think, and i've seen catalyst for linux also..can we do it here?

5) the button in the keyboard lights orange(indicating"mute"), when its muted, and also when unmuted...

thats all for now... Otherwise this OS is very delicious, to the eye (the graphics) and also its more fun than windows..i learned more computing in 1 day than using windows for ....
thanks in advanced guys...

First, install and activate Ati proprietary drivers via additional drivers tool found in system/admin

Then, download and install Ati cat 11.2 drivers.

http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/Ati-Catalyst-10-12-11-1-11-2-Ubuntu-Installer-65122.shtml

Download the scripts , find the 11.2 x86 or x64

Right click the script to use and change permissions to Allow executing, Box must be checked

Start terminal , type
Code: Select all
Sudo su

Then drag and drop the script to terminal as root

Allow to fully install and complete, then restart. Ccc can be found in system/preferences

This will give ya Ati cat 11.2

Finger print tools can be found in ubuntu software center as can pad tools. Just search.

Disk protection can be done at time of account setup or install of ubuntu Ultimate Edition by selecting the encryption box.

Altho there are minor things windows can do that Linux can not. For the most part, with some work, Linux can be made to do 99% of everything windows can even better then windows.

The benefits of Linux far out way the cons when compared to windows. Just takes time to learn, learning is far easier with the right forum to help. So keep asking and we will keep answering.

Thinking Ultimate Edition 2.9 might be a better fit for you .

I think the newer kernel will help a lot.

Not one of my systems will run worth a dime on Ultimate Edition 2.7 due to outdated kernel.

Just a thought.
