Well I'm using my Creative 5.1 USB sound drive and suddenly all my sound output has been hissing. Started 20th of July and I'm trying to ride myself of it now. Doesn't matter what I play or where I play it from there is hissing. I don't get this hissing from 7 and I'll try loadin' my other Ubuntu to see if I get the hissing there. The right side hisses more then the left side. I've already confirmed that it's not the speakers or from the laptop speakers OR headphones jack.

I also logged into Ku, Lu, and Xubuntu where it seemed that the hiss wasn't there. I don't know how to mount my other hard drives from those OSs so I can use my test songs.

Did you install the PulseAudio EQ and set the EQ in it? Applications > Sound & Video > PulseAudio Equalizer I found that if I set it then set another EQ in an application I get static from the speakers, but not a hiss.

..I guess
I did find PulseAudio Volume Meter and Manager. I messed with the setting some and saw (screen shots) no subwoofer (I still get sound though), if I moved subwoofer below Max I hear a hiss, and no sound from my rear right speaker. If I move balance or Fade I get a hiss (no hiss otherwise). This is the same or similar in regular Ubuntu. Input is muted. The 5.1 isn't coming out right as in the rear left and right are switched somehow (Sound correct on Windows, Ubuntu). All theme sound effects cause Subwoofer to move in PulseAudio Volume meter. I disable "Enable window and button sounds".

After messing with it I've found that volume and subwoofer go up and down together for some reason I guess I need to install PulseAudio on my regular Ubuntu so that it'll control that hissing a little better. The subwoofer going up and down will cause the hissing to increase and decrease.
