Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.7

Removing KDE etc

Postby alanrlow » Fri Jul 09, 2010 9:16 am

I have just upgraded to a 64bit machine and also upgraded from Ultimate Edition 2.4 (32bit) to Ultimate Edition 2.7 (64bit). I have realised that in the last couple of years using Ultimate Edition I have only once looked at KDE once, didn't much like it, couldn't get wireless working, and have never used it since. Given that it seems to be taking up valuable disk space is there any harm in removing KDE and the other unused desktop environments? If this is not a problem and is doable, what would be the easiest way to go about it? The huge number of KDE programs just seem to duplicate GNOME programs too and seem unnecessary. I mean how many DVD/CD burning programs or terminals do you need?
Thanks.

Shouldn't be a problem, just search for -desktop in
System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager
and remove those you don't want or need.

I am pretty much a Gnome guy now, I started in KDE 3.5 but when 4 came around I looked at Gnome and love it. That being said there are a lot of KDE programs I like better than Gnome equivalents!
