Backing Up w/ Back in Time .. [SOLVED]

Postby marty6 » Thu Jul 01, 2010 8:57 am

Hi,

I'm on my way to 'really' learning about the different aspects of UE2.7 :D . I have done a 'Back in Time' backup of my directories /home /etc /var /opt and /dev directories. I was wondering if there is a way to get my login user "me" to do this and not log in as 'root' to do this backup?

My problem is that I do not have permission to access or write to the specified 'backup' partition. Is there a command that I can use for this?

thx,

marty6

Hello marty6.

Back in Time has 2 options.

1- user.
2- ROOT.

So try the User part, just remember the pass for your old user/old ROOT pass.
And then you can get it done.

OR

If you have the last User pass/ROOT pass use it to open your Back up.

Oops,

I guess 'Back in Time' as root on the drop down menu in Applications / system tools does that

Great prog, btw!

Admin-Amir,

Yes, I figured out the I could use the Back in Time as root while logged in as user. While logged in as user, I did not have permission to have 'write access' to the partition that I wanted to use. Logged in as 'root' and using the Back in Time program, I was able to be granted access to the partition.

Just about a minute ago I tried Back in Time as a user after using Back in Time as root while logged in as user...seemed to work.

thx,
