Hi!
I would like to know how to copy my /home partition to another partition as a backup. I think that I messed 2.7 somehow. Recently, I had 2.5 running w/ a separate /home partition. I backed up my sources.list on a usb stick as well as any ppa's. Upon installing 2.7 I kept my /home partition with the old settings. I continued w/ an install of my progs. While looking in the terminal I noticed that 2.7 was going to be deleted and I guess 'was' to an extent. When 2.7 boots up I get the xfce desktop. Can't figure that one out. I do have my 'old desktop' from 2.5. All the icons are there. Before I proceeded with the install of the programs that I was missing, I noticed that the entire environment was really slow. I guess this was due to most of the programs not being there.
Well, what I want to do now, and this is where I need the help, is to
1. copy the /home partition to another partition (which is an empty 'primary' partition). <-- don't know how to do this as well as copying back the 'new' backup copy of the /home partition to its original location <--- don't know how to do this either
2. Reinstall 2.7. <-- I can do this
3. While reinstalling I am considering 'formatting' over the /home partition. After the reinstall, I'm considering 'copying' the backed up /home partition to the new /home partition and then reinstalling all old programs. Guidance and opinions needed here
Thanks,
