How to install VMware workstation?

Postby mirchichamu » Tue Jun 29, 2010 1:04 pm

Hi all,
I am new to linux and for that matter to ultimate. I installed ultimate edition just today. Its fantastic. I want to install VMware workstation. How to do that? Will any one explain in simple words how to install via terminal?

My downloaded vwware workstation is in: admin2/downloads/vwware workstation
How can I direct the terminal to the above location?

I shall be thankful to you all.

Thanks Admin-Amir for your reply BUT everything flown over my head. Those instructions are for professionals. I am not a professional. Just a newbie to Linux.

I got these instructions with the download:

[---How To Install-------------------
-bundle
-Open a terminal and 'cd' to the directory containing the .bundle file
-Run: sudo chmod +x VMware-Workstation-7.0.1-227600.i386.NoTools.bundle
-Run: sudo ./VMware-Workstation-7.0.1-227600.i386.NoTools.bundle
-Follow the onscreen instructions to install]
BUT I don't know how to direct terminal toward the file.

will you please tell me how to direct the terminal towards the file. The downloaded file is on desktop. Thanks.

Hello mirchichamu.

well if this is your status with the terminal commands ,
Then way don't you use VBox ?
Just download the package from the site and install it with Deb package manager.

The site download the top one that say - Ubuntu 10.04 ("Lucid Lynx") i386 | AMD64:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

Then install it and run the Virtual machine.
