Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.7

alternate login sessions

Postby Goldie » Sun Jun 27, 2010 10:42 am

Hello,
I have purchased Ultimate Edition 2.7 on DVD because I am on a slow dlaiup modem.
I have loaded it but when I get my grapical login screen, it does not offer the alternate choices.

Is there some setup that must be done do get the login screen to offer Xfce, Kde , Gnone, L
If so, please I need detailed instructions.

I am new to Ubuntu. I choose Ultimate Edition because it offered all the different sessions and
offered alot more stuff in the package load.

Hello and welcome Goldie ! So you have Ultimate Edition installed!? you must enter your user name first,(At the login screen) then at the bottom of the screen you will see the "Gnome" option, click that, and you will see the the other boot options! click the one you want and then your password ! NOTE, If you want KDE, log into Gnome open synaptic and in search type "kubuntu desktop" and "install" , only even numbered releases come complete with KDE, Any thing else we can help with, don't be afraid to ask ! we are here to help ! ;)

Sounds bass acwards to me there JOHNNYG.
2,7 has KDE and the other windows managers. It's the even numbered releases that only have Gnome.
The rest is like he says, once you choose the user change the session at the bottom, then login with your password.
And welcome to the forum Goldie.

Thankyou. I have found where the choices are now. Somehow, I thought from some image I saw, that
the choices were all listed in the middle of the login screen . The choices are "kinda" hiding because
I don't look down there after I enter my name / password, so never noticed it appearing.

After trying out a few of the variants, I notice that there are 3 choices for gnome, and 2 for kde and more
What is the difference between Failsafe Gnome, Gnome , and Gnome/openbox ?

Now that I have played around, what was the default set to ?

Log into fail safe, and it should tell you.Least it did...you start gnome with no start up scripts.
