I made another post about the cursor going nuts under Ultimate Edition. The only partial fix that I have found was under System -> Preferences -> Mouse touchpad tab select disable touchpad while typing.

That helps a little bit (I think) IMHO it need to variable time between the end of typing and the touchpad becoming active again.

The reason I am posting though is to ask about an app in the Ubuntu Software Center called GSynaptics.
Does it offer anything for my problem?

I also found another app not listed in the installer as of yet:

Hi there.

Well, although I am not new with Ubuntu, I am definitely new with Ultimate and I LOVE It.

However, a week or so after installing it, I began having the following two main issues (this has gone on for several months, now).

Upon attempt to boot, I get the infamous message:
"Reboot and select proper boot device or put media in the boot device and press any key"

NOTE: GRUB is my primary loader but I intend to change that. I have dual boot with Windows 7. I am using the Ultimate Edition live CD right now! Can't even get into Ubuntu OR Windows. Argh!

ALSO: Ever since I first installed Ubuntu 10.0 a while back, my windows drivers have been failing on me repeatedly, and the lovely "blue screen" AND "black screen" have reared their ugly heads at me; once every couple of weeks at first, now it's daily.

I am able to temporarily fix the boot device issue by editing the BIOS and resetting it to optimized default then changing it again to my settings. I already have my priority settings to CD, and not HD, so I know it's NOT that... This has gone on for months and it has become chronic. I have always been able to fix my own computers and I really don't want to take it to a specialist. But I am more familiar with software than hardware (I believe it's a hardware issue, but not too sure) and I am so frustrated that I just may consider it!

I have checked ALL drives and components and they are all healthy and working. My only thought now is that the HDD controller on the mobo may have broken some how, but I do not have a PCI IDE controller to test that.

Here are all the SPECS of my laptop that I can muster up:

HELP??!!??

P.S. Do you think THIS--->http://www.darknet.org.uk/2010/11/tdl-aka-alureon-rootkit-now-infecting-64-bit-windows-7-platform/ may be the cause?? The blog states it's supposedly a new and virtually indestructible rootkit that changes the BIOS and MBR!!! Crap! Check it out and give me your input? I haven't seen a way to fix it, if this IS the issue! Sheesh!!
