Re: Audio issues please post here.

I recently bought a basic(the cheapest one i could get) sound card since the onboard card have trouble working(it's trying hard to work :-)))).What i get is nothing but a broken sound. However i tested that card on my friends computer who run windows and it works good there.

One more thing when i play any song or use any sound related application i get the following error
pa_stream_writable_size() failed: Connection terminated

what causes this problem. Is it because of two sound card??. I have already disabled the onboard sound card in bios and this never troubled me in ultimate2.7.This is issue with maverick(the one from the ubuntu.com site). Also when is the ultimate2.8 going to release???.

Hello lindows .

what causes this problem. Is it because of two sound card??.

well that Answer is YES.
the one that you have disabled as Address in the BIOS for the card and it holds the Address in the small battery on your board.
The change in the BIOS will not prevent the Address to take the place on your board options.
So just get the Card out of your board and then make shortcut to the battery for 7 sec with one wire.
then the Address will be free to use on the system.
the other card will not have more conflicts with the BIOS.

But in ultimate2.7 which i have on another partition, this problem is not there. There everything runs perfect. This problem came in meerkat.I am dual booting now,one with ultimate2.7 and the meerkat.I decided to compile the alsa driver but it also emits out error. Here is the log file

i came across this page http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Emu10k1x which says

This is the new Dell model of SB Live! According to the Creative Open Source page. The Dell CT0200 -- The new Live 5.1 card from Dell (CT0200)

So i went straight to sound preference --->hardware--->profile---->Analog Surround 5.1 output and the sound started playing .Earlier it was analog stereo duplex. The sound is not broken now. However the sound has lots of noise in it.And also i have 2.1 system and not 5.1.However changing the settings in gnome alsamixer do remove the noise for a second but it reverts back to the same noisy setting again.

lindows,

see if you have install the 2 mixers on your system and add the support packages for them.
Then you have the alsa gnome mixer install there.
Then configure the mixer right.
then in the Device Chooser mark the Default sound server to be alsa mixer.

The sound issues i was talking about is actually a kernel bug.Yes i filed a bug report at launchpad:

It affected me in fedora also after i had a kernel upgrade yesterday. Here a bug filed at redhat bugzilla :
