Thanks, Johnny.
I did check at sourceforge dot net, and found the 64 bit version with a download link, as you suggested.
Three questions:
a. I found no torrent available for downloading, at sourceforge. I also found no link to "our server", here, at this web site. Where is the torrent?
b. 2+ gigabytes? Whew. No wonder there is a heavy load on the server..... What's the problem with providing a "live" cdrom worth of applications, and access to Synaptic to allow users to install whatever else they need? In my own particular circumstance, if VLC is included, I won't need anything else, apart from ALSA, and access to a decent browser.
c. Date of this 64 bit version? Is it alpha, beta, RC? How about the Kernel? How does 2.6.1 compare, or benchmark, against 2.8? Normally, or, perhaps more accurately, BY CONVENTION, software components which employ version numbers, augment the value of an assigned integer in accord with a change in the component.
3.1 is considered NEWER, or BETTER, or SLICKER, or FASTER, or MORE EFFICIENT, than the OLDER, SLOWER, LESS SOPHISTICATED version 3.0, for example. Yet, for some reason, not apparent to me, at least, Ultimate edition 2.6.1 is regarded as NEWER, better, slicker, faster, than 2.8. Versions with three digits, suggest prototypes, or test versions, rather than polished "final" products, at least in my opinion.
This numerical assignment is counterintuitive, in my opinion, and there may well be an excellent reason for adopting such a non-conformist numbering scheme, but whatever that reason may be, in my opinion, it ought to be spelled out.
