Probably too late now since you were in a hurry but there is more than 1 doc format that OO can save it in.
Next time try save as "Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc), and save another copy as "Rich Text Format (.rtf)".

One of them should work in Windows. There was a woman that had the same issue at school about a week ago but I didn't have my laptop with me to fix it at the time, and the school won't install OO.

Hello everton PPL.

everton long time no see :D ;)
There is one more way to support the open office with word doc's.
Look under search in synaptic=>office/open office.
You will see there that there are packages to support the save option from word to open office.
read the info on the packages there and you will get the solution to the saving issue.

BTW - now on this days on the 2.8 Alpha there is NEW office coming up. ;)

There is an online conversion utility that might be of help: http://www.zamzar.com/

I have converted Word, and Works files to OpenOffice format from there.

Let us all know if, and how, you solve your conundrum...
