command 'show' doesn't appear to work

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.6

command 'show' doesn't appear to work

Postby dougal » Sat Aug 07, 2010 4:15 pm

I installed the 'show' command and all appears to go well, no errors etc. When I try to use the command the system tells me there is no show command... I have tried with sudo first as well.
I am by no means a Linux whiz Kid, just an ordinary soul trying to live with computers my way and not the Microsoft way.

Ultimate Edition is fantastic - you guys have dine a great job. I have now completely converted to Linux (except for one slight hiccup today which I'll keep for the coffee room).

Now my question is: why can't I use the show command?
I apt-get installed it without apparent problems. I rebooted to see if that made a difference... nope!
I added sudo to the command line first, still no show command found.

I am trying to change the cursor away from the awful black one with the white border by trying to follow Theeman post of "show hidden.png" in the .icons folder.

The post tells me how to show the hidden files in Nautilus and to make the .icons folder but, I am lost with what is meant by the few lines following the 'show hidden.png' command.

When I look at the Compiz General Settings there is no cursor theme option. Is this perhaps the problem and if so how do I correct this?

Thanks for any help.

I have the default Ultimate Edition cursor working now, even though it changes to the Clearlooks blue glass when focus is on application windows. Never mind it is certainly better than the black with white border.

You don't have to use a command to show hidden files. Just open your home folder, (click the places menu on the top panel and click home), and then click View on the toolbar. You should see the option to show hidden files. You could also just press Ctrl+H inside your home folder. Let us know if you need more help.
