Wubi Installer for Ultimate 2.6 Edition help!!!

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.6

Wubi Installer for Ultimate 2.6 Edition help!!!

Postby wncdgr » Mon May 24, 2010 4:44 pm

Hello Everyboby,

I am new in this forum.I have already downloaded few ultimate editions and tried them out.
They were very exciting.

I am having a trouble now installing the latest Ultimate edition 2.6 using wubi installer 10.04
on windows vista OS.

As soon as i run wubi installer it doesn't show me the option "install inside windows" as it was in Ultimate 2.1 but it prompts me only to the remaining options as it shown bellow. :!: :?:

The reason why i am using wubi is because i do not want to risk to resize my disk into partitions in
order to prevent any data loss and because i cannot use the option of a cd/dvd rom as my driver is not working on my lappy any-more.

Thank you all for taking the time to read and I am looking forward to hear some news.

Hello wncdgr & welcome to the U.E Forum.

First of all - if you do not have your CD/DVD working on your lappy then,
way don't you use Vbox to install the U.E system?
In this way you will not have to play with your HDD.
Second you try to install Ubuntu one, this is not U.E sorry,
U.E has there installation process Different from the Ubuntu installation.
So my suggestion for you if you do not want to partition your HDD (you can do it with Parted Magic very easy to use),
Then install the U.E from the VBox - make the size of the partition - 20-30 G for the installation and Update/Upgrade of the system - then you have it all as you have request + without using CD/DVD.

Thank you for your swift reply.

Previously i have used an Ultimate 2.1 edition on Vista and it worked just fine.

My question is whether i can do the same with the Ultimate 2.6 edition by using wubi again on vista?

I do not want to run it in the vbox as i did it before in the past and I could not use 3-D acceleration and some other features properly etc.

Now I am using my flash drive to open the live/install edition of the Ultimate Edition 2.6 but I do not want to install it on my lappy as it may damage the only one partition which is the C drive and all the back up partitions that were included with windows Vista.

If there is no other option, then my last question would be if it is safe to de-fragment and then resize the disk and create partitions!? In that case which would be the appropriate partition tools that you could recommend to use for this procedure?

Thank you once again.

The first thing to you is I understand your point on the way you want to install the U.E on the vista,
well that will not go sorry - there is allot of Differences from 2.1 to 2.6 systems.
Now to the next option well yes this will be better option to get the installation process to work for you.
you have 2 problems here:
1- you need to use the Flash Disk for 2 Different works.
the First will be to get the ISO of parted magic:
http://partedmagic.com/download.html

and you need to extract the ISO to your flash Drive so you can use the BOOT option to work with it.
To re size your Partition for the installation of the U.E and keep your vista +DATA.

2- you need to format your Flash Drive after you will fix the UNALLOCATED partition for U.E ,
and extract the U.E to your Flash Drive for the U.E installation.

so you can use Unetbootin for MS Software to get it done:
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

But first you have to fragment defragment your C: drive 2-3 Times to get done,
Then you can start to work on the partition resizing.

I just saw your answer and wanted to thank you again for taking the time to deal with my problem. Will try and see how it works.

Please let me know if there is any chance to do all this by using external HDD with data in it.

Hello hotrod .

you can install the U.E with VBox. - virtual machine software.
If you want to install the U.E side by side with your MS the best way will be in Virtual machine.
Please do not try the wubi option , it will give you just the minimal options of using the Ultimate Edition
You can download the VBox from there site, install the software,
then you can install the U.E as full working system and not the wubi option.
