Hello! If that is not a excuse, I'm from Russia and the English I know is bad, look at the many affected by this problem.
Required another solution, go to the console and type
Code: Select all
sudo update-alternatives - config x-cursor-theme

then select your cursor and write its number and press enter
out of your account And again we come and see the miracle there is our favorite mouse
Вот как-то так ;)

Hi Theeman, I believe that your workaround would fix this issue :) . I'll try it today night and post it back.

Before visiting this thread i was searching for this fix in google for 2 days and i got many links(url) except to this thread and one fix was almost similar to this.
The fix was to open the file present in /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme and to add the following lines

    [Icon Theme]
    Name=Ultimate_Edition_2.6_Cursor /* Any theme name after = sign*/
    Comment=A animated 3D cursor theme
    Example=hand
    Inherits = Ultimate_Edition_2.6_Cursor /* Any theme name after = sign*/

The original file didn't have "inherits = * " line and i added that line .

After restarting i got the old cursor, shaped "X" and also i was not able to open terminal or enter root password anywhere(including login screen). And finally i reinstalled Ultimate Edition 2.4 gamers edition. :|

After seeing the workaround given by you, i'm planning to install Ultimate Edition 2.6 and try it.

Laptop(Compaq 6510b Business) :
    Processor : Intel core2duo 2.1GHz
    RAM : 2GB
    Graphics card : Inbuilt Intel graphics card
Desktop System:
    Processor : AMD Phenom X4 2.3GHz
    RAM : 2GB
    Graphics card : NVidia 9400GT
