Hello!
Just installed Ultimate Edition 2.6, awesome OS!
I tryed to do some updates and it told me that it couldn't do all of the updates so I installed the ones I could...
Now "Devede" is asking for "mplayer" and "mencoder", which are installed! When I was using through Live CD it was working.

What's wrong?

I'm using Ultimate Edition 2.6 32bits.
And no, I didn't installed any custom repositories, I'm using the ones that came with Ultimate Edition 2.6.

By the way, Winff isn't working to convert ogv to avi:

This is what i get in Winff:

"#!/bin/sh
echo -n "\033]0; A converter test (1/1)\007"
/usr/bin/ffmpeg -i "/home/wolfram/test.ogv" -f avi -r 29.97 -vcodec libxvid -vtag XVID -s 704x384 -aspect 16:9 -maxrate 1800k -b 1500k -qmin 3 -qmax 5 -bufsize 4096 -mbd 2 -bf 2 -flags +4mv -trellis -aic -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -g 300 -acodec libmp3lame -ar 48000 -ab 128k -ac 2 "/home/wolfram/test.avi"
read -p "Press Enter to Continue" dumbyvar
rm "/home/wolfram/.winff/ff100504024136.sh""

Nor I can't convert to mp4 using VLC, it creates a 200kb file...

The only way I have to convert from ogv to avi is using ffmpeg from the terminal. I don't know if this is connected to the "devede" problem...

Hello Wolfcrf.

to solve the issue you need to install support from synaptic to the avi - search in synaptic - avifiles.
convert to mp4 - search mp4 in Synaptic, then you will get some more packages to install.
so the issues that you have is just with missing install packages.

I installed mplayer gui version and it doesn't run...something is wrong. I tried to reinstall them and follow this too:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

but I still can't use "devede"...

whereis mplayer
"mplayer: /usr/bin/mplayer /etc/mplayer /usr/share/mplayer /usr/share/man/man1/mplayer.1.gz"
whereis mencoder
mencoder: /usr/bin/mencoder /usr/share/man/man1/mencoder.1.gz

I installed all packages for avi/mp4, I can play thos formats, but can't convert ogv to them ONLY with ffmpeg in the terminal.

Hello Wolfcrf .

well I do not think that our Guides less good then the Ubuntu Guides on there site ;)
If you have look on the multimedia Guide and look for all the packages that have to be install for support,
You will have all the option to be working on the convert + players.
Here are the packages that have to be install for MPlayer - under Synaptic.

Thanks!
But I had all those installed already...
I think this has something to do with the "partial updates" I had to do when installed Ultimate Edition 2.6

What's the difference between:
libavutil49 and libavutil-extra-49?
libavcodec52 and libavcodec-extra-52?

I was trying to install libavutil49 and libavcodec52 but if I do that through synaptic it will unninstall a lot of programs and codecs, including libavcodec-extra-52 and libavutil-extra-49

This is why I was trying to install those lib:

wolfram@wbuntu:~$ mplayer
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libavutil.so.49: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
wolfram@wbuntu:~$ mencoder
mencoder: error while loading shared libraries: libavutil.so.49: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

that's why mplayer is not starting

Hello Wolfcrf.

you can see the Differences if you try to change the packages = Delete allot of software.
At this of point there is bug with MPlayer - try to work with VLC for what you need.
