Hi, again. I have had this problem with 10.04. On my PC i have 2 drives they are not set to raid they are just there. Drive 1 and drive 2 they are connected on my mobo by sata connectors sata 1 is a 250 hitachi hdd, sata 2 is a optiarc cd/dvd drive and sata 3 is a 320 samsung hdd(used as pure storage). If i try and install with all the hdd's attached the install always wants to install to the 320 hdd it wont allow me to install on the 250 hdd unless i disconnect the 320 hdd it will then install fine, the 250 drive has xp, osx and 10.04 on currently just inthe middle of installing 2.6, this was not the case with 2.5? any one any ideas.

Are you doing a "manual" install at choose your hard drive, on the install menu ?

Tried that still would not give me the option to install on my first drive it only seems to pick up the second drive with no OS's on so i have to disconnect the drive, to do an install i had to increase the size of ubuntu 10.04 so that i could then install Ultimate Edition 2.6 as it did not allow me to install onto the partition i had made, This is the same issue i had with 10.04, even on my laptop with a single drive i created a partition for Ultimate Edition/ubuntu then when i tried to install it only wanted to install in the windows partition so deleted the partition joined it back to the windows partition creating a single drive it would then install fine and create its own drive/partition at the size i selected.

hope some body can figure this out, as it wasn't such an issue with previous installs.

I am very interested in giving Ultimate Edition 2.6 a whirl, but I've run into a snag that may just be my own stupidity. I downloaded 2.6 and began installation of the live version. Before I can login, it asks for a username and password. Have I missed an instruction in this somewhere? Be greatful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks. <BREW>

In the install it would of asked you for a user name and password i think its just after the point where you choose your drives. if you did not set them then will it let you just click return to bypass this if not or you have forgotten i would try a reinstall just in case but watch it carefully as it should be there if its not there is something wrong with your disc.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I haven't gotten to the point where I can install to my hard drive. I just wanted to run the live version from my dvd and install from there. The desktop will not appear until I enter a username and password first. I clicked return for each but gives an error message and returns to the login again. In some other distros I just type in "guest" for both the username and password, but here nothing seems to work. I just want to get into the desktop and install from there. Guess I'll download and burn again to see if there were any problems with the previous burn. Can I install Ultimate Edition 2.6 directly without having to run the live dvd first. Not sure if I saw that option when I booted from the dvd.

Hello, Hopefully the second download goes well and you are able to install and run Ultimate Edition 2.6 from your HD, as you shouldn't have too, and can't give a username or password to log into the LIVE disk. Something went wrong for sure with the first disk. Also possible is that your DVD drive is dying and runs out of steam halfway through, I have had this happen before myself. So if the second disk does the same I would try another DVD drive, or a different brand of disks.
