Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.6

OK this wasn't a good night. I installed it last night, or tried to. It was finishing the install, copying files and got to 130% of the files copied, so I let it run over night. I checked back in the morning it had stalled at 160% and said that my DVD drive was dirty or bad. So I am trying again this morning, but will probably have to reburn the DVD.

UPDATE: well I think my closing the lid of my Laptop made it hibernate, and clobbered the install, this time it looks like
it's working.

I kind of had the same problem as you RAZ but the manual install option would show all my 5 HD's except for one which was the OS drive. I ended up having to mount and wipe the drive on the live disc for it to see it, WIERD I KNOW, but that solved that issue for me. Hope that helps any.

well fapp! I have very little setup time invested in my non-networked 2.6 install, so I am going to wipe and reinstall the system...

So this is my problem:

Every time I get to 7 of 7 and proceed it gets 2 seconds into the install then gives me this error.

The ext4 file system creation in partition #1 of Serial ATA RAID pdc_cbcjdjgjjf (stripe) failed.

this is the first time I have setup a Raid of any kind and have no idea how to fix this problem.

So any help would be great!

Yeah did sort of similar instead of wiping my drive i extended the 10.04 partition then installed UE2.6 into that, I had to unplug the extra drive first though( This is definitely a Lucid issue as the same occurs there), unmounting may have worked, not sure though, Still got it installed now so all is good.

Try to manually configure the partitions with gparted, then install and use the existing partitions. gparted also does not show fakeraid partitions in its drop down list in lucid so you will need to run it from the command line and specify the raid device to use.

Code: Select all
sudo gparted /dev/mapper/pdc_fefbcjfbc

By the way, unless you are dual booting with windows you should not be using the fake raid support. It does not handle errors properly. Use linux software raid instead.

to get it done:

Code: Select all
aptitude install dmraid

Then Restart your machine.

mine is the same, but yet equally different problem. when i get to step 4 of 7, i have nothing in the device box and no way to move forward. I have only one hard drive plugged in (IDE) and GPARTED see the drive just fine. I am using the x86 version of 2.6... live looks great, i just can't install it. It says "prepare Partitions" and then has Device, Type, Mount Point, Format?, Size and Used in columns and then the box underneath is just black, nothing there.............

DVD media is fine, I will try it on another machine just to check.

Hello jhollon .

Did you have made the HDD UNALLOCATED?
you can use Parted Magic to get it done for you, just down the ISO,burn it to CD,
Boot your machine with the CD and go to the partition manger right click on the drive and Delete.
The on the top bar Apply the process will set the HDD for the installation.
Then Restart your machine, insert the U.E and start the installation process.

hello I am having a problem with with the install as well. I run the install and get to step 4 and it will only show my ram-drive that i use for swap, and will not show the hard drive that is a dual boot winxp/ext-3 linux install. I was going to install over ext-3 partition but it will not see it or give any option but the ram drive.

any help would be useful thank you.
