Okay Blackwolf,

As I earlier said, it is a DELL Inspiron 6000 and the specs are below (I just copied and pasted):

Memory (RAM): 1528 MB
CPU Info: Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.40GHz
CPU Speed: 1395.0 MHz
Sound Card: SigmaTel C-Major Audio
Display Adapters: Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family | Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family | RDPDD Chained DD
Network Adapters: Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller - Packet Scheduler Miniport
USB Controllers: 5 host controllers.
Firewire (1394): 1 host controllers.

I installed Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 (2.8 &9 would not install, I don't know why). It installed really great and runs all the features I want, but I can't seem to be able to connect to the internet.

The network icon shows somewhere at the top right hand corner, and should indicate when I connect a modem or Ethernet cable, but it does not. It just remains the same and recognises my internet modem as a storage drive instead of a modem.

Someone on the forum suggested I upgrade the kernel which I did (downloaded and installed), but there was no difference- still no internet access. I dual boot with the system and I'm sending this message from the windows part of the system.

N.B
The laptop previously had linux mint Isadora on it and all was working fine.

You could try installing the windows wireless driver (same driver controls the Ethernet) by extracting the windows driver and installing it through ndiswrapper.
System > Administration > Windows Wireless Driver
Click add and point it to the driver you extracted.

32 bit driver can be found here if you don't already have one

If that fails
This is a little old but then so is the Broadcom 440x so maybe it will help.

Good luck
