open up synaptics....you will already have em installed,or they should be.Xorg will use the right driver you need automatically. You can always add testing repos which might add features the drivers don't have from the main repo...then again they might boot you into a black screen too.

ATI propitiatory drivers stopped supporting your gpu back with juanty.Don't confuse those drivers with the ones with ATI/xorg in the name...those are the open source drivers. You can revert back to a version of wine that did allow the game to play...a common thing with wine-updates might break a working app.

In a nut shell if you use an "unsupported" gpu when you load up the os...well what you get is what you get.You get a desktop with some,or all the eye candy, but some features of the gpu might be lacking in the gaming department.<I am not at all implying this is your case.

Whats the terminal output of
Code: Select all
glxinfo | grep rendering
?

Did you set wine up first before using it?This must be done.

Still poking around...

The packages at launchpad are the same that you can download through synaptic. Do me a favor type this and show us the results
Code: Select all
sudo glxinfo
then this
Code: Select all
sudo fglrxinfo
If you are using the open source drivers you will get a bunch of information with glxinfo and if you get no information on the fglrx this is fine. This means your are using the open source drivers . If you get information on both glxinfo and fglrxinfo then you are using the proprietary drivers. After this you should go to synaptic and type Nvidia in the search and purge(by purge I mean completely remove) all their files because Nvidia and ATI drivers conflict like crazy. To be totally honest ATI uses parts of the open source driver for 2d and their own drivers for 3d.

Yeah I read that and read some stuff on play on Linux still does same thing. The setup is from what I see is the same as Blackwolf has posted in another spot.Had the WOW working with the NVIDIA in 2.5 of my motherboard just was playing with the 2.6 and it wouldnt run right so went over to the old ATI I had in attic. My only problem with the ATI is with the WOW.To bad I cant just run the onboard with the 2.5 and the ATI with the 2.6 without constantly changing bios settings constantly.
