I am running 2.5 ok but I am having problems installing and running VB 3.1.6-59338, the closed version. I need this as much of my work is on usb sticks. I have downloaded the 64 bit version from the VB web site and it shows as being installed in synaptic. It does not show in applications nor can I get it to run by using the terminal - it tells me to install the open version!
The open version will install and run fine but no usb support.

Im new at this but I just installed 2.5 did all the updates posted by Amir and Black Wolf and mine is reading USB sticks fine.Might be the system your on is different then mine.

Did you try logging out? For me it automatically created a link in Applications>System Tools.
