I could be wrong,but...doesn't Ultimate Edition come with a wifi connector other than the gnome manager?Been reading about er fun with the wifi disconnecting...happens to me too.The linux drivers aren't 100%. At least not all of em.

I don't even use the gnome connection manager...to buggy for me.But look in your system tab I think there's something pertaining to wifi, and might get you up at least to download the app you need.

I need to get off of win7...and Ill check in a bit. ;)

Hello, you might have to reinstall Ultimate Edition from the LIVE disk. (Start over in other words)... Back up your data first! Unless someone else can figure out how to solve your problem, like boot up from the LIVE disk and copy over the missing files, not sure that will work...............without breaking your system.

Hello Jeahavee

You should be able to use the dvd as a source and reinstall the packages that way. ;) hope this helps.

Hello Jeahavee.

Can you open synaptic?
Then Install the network manager from there.
If this will not work for you then try this command in the terminal:

Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/network-manager_*.deb

and if this will not work you can try:

Code: Select all
apt-get install gnome-system-tools

OR

64 BIT:

32 BIT

Well, maybe try this, from the SYSTEM menu, go to the ADMINISTRATION to SOFTWARE SOURCES, when that opens check the box at the bottom of that window to use the DVD as a source, to reinstall your missing software. Then put the Ultimate Edition DVD in your drive and then open SYNAPTIC to try and reinstall your missing software. Could also try this when booting from the LIVE disk.

IF nothing works then you will have to reinstall Ultimate Edition from the LIVE disk again.

Nope that's not working either. It still complain about having no internet doesn't go to cd rom at all. Well I guess it's time to go back on Windows and download ISO of 2.5. could I get a 2.6 beta?

Very important how do i backup my settings ? Not so much how but IF I set it to a folder or drive how long does it take to copy the backup. And what is the file type so I know it when I restore it.

The time it takes varies with how much data you have to copy to the folder or other drive, also a USB drive will take longer to copy than it would to an internal HD.

The file will be in a folder named after your computers name and that file will be called something like; Backup Set 2010-03-22 230745

Sorry you will not be able to get a beta copy of 2.6 unless you are allowed to be a tester/Admin/mod/etc. So you will have to wait like I will for the final release. Believe me it is better to wait for the final, then most, if not all the major problems have been found and fixed by the Ultimate Edition team. You are also part of this team just by being here, I am sure sooner or later you will be able to help other people with some problems. While it is fun to try out beta releases, they do have potential bugs that might crash your whole system. If you only have one computer, then by all means do not play around with beta anything, especially if your dual booting with a Windows system.

Ubuntu 10.04 will be out in about 14 days, I am sure Thee Mahn will have the 2.6 out shortly thereafter. Since 2.6 is based on 10.04 Thee Mahn needs time to address any final changes within 10.04 before releasing 2.6. I hope you can understand that and have the patience to wait, believe me it is HARD to do! But it will be worth it for sure!!!
