Install stops at 78%, 10GB partition -[SOLVED]

I hope this isn't a dumb question. I'm trying to install Ultimate 2.5 in Virtualbox 3.0.12 hosted in Antix 8.2. I'm using a freshly-formatted (ext3) 10GB virtual drive for the install. However, when the install reaches the 78% mark, it stops on a "disk full" error. It's done this repeatedly.

Does Ultimate simply require more than 10GB for its installation? I ask because I've installed several other distros in the neighborhood of 3 to 4GB in 10GB and they went fine. According to this post ( viewtopic.php?f=66&t=4524&sid=b5376687d63fa374edaaa20b9a9f8b76#p49211 ), Ultimate requires 7.7GB, which should fit into 10GB? However, some other posts speak of 18-20GB not being enough. I'll need to stick with 10GB if I install to my laptop.

Hello dpeirce and welcome to the U.E Forum.

well sorry to tell you that , but yes you need more then 10 GB.
15-20 GB this is the right space that you will need to install the Distro.
Now the Question is way right?
well first because to will need to install the update/upgrade.
Then come the part of the plug in + drivers+software...
this need some room to host all of it.
VBox give you the Default size of the installation, without no update considering,
without any other installation option that has bean calculated in Advanced.
The only one that know what will be install more is just you.

So for you Question 10GB is to small partition.
And you do not use in Advanced the ext3 for the installation process,
you need the partition to be formatted to Unallocated format.
the Disc will format the partition to ext4 in the process of the installation for you.

hope my Answer is clear to you , and you can understand the Needz for the space.

Viva Texas - Like that. ;)

i dink with Vbox on both my windows side and my linux side. i have found that i really never want to tell it anything less than 50 and to set it to auto grow(what ever the real terminology is) for a couple of reasons.
1) no OS likes to be overly crowded
2) i like to always have a download area in the OS
there are exceptions to all rules like Damn Small Linux it don't use much space and is built to be crowded

OK, thanks for the info Admin-Amir. I'll try it with a 20GB virtual drive in my tower machine just to play with it, but I probably won't be able to install it on my laptop as I had hoped.... not enough room. I had tried Ubuntu, Mint, and Kubuntu earlier and they did just fine in a 10GB vdi so this surprised me. But, I guess if I really really really like it, I can adjust!

Is Ultimate an Israeli OS?

DaringSoule, I've never had any trouble with using 10GB vdi's in VBox (except with Gentoo and , now, Ultimate :)). However, the vdi only holds the operating system and software that I'm experimenting with; any data-type stuff goes on the big partition (15GB) which contains my host OS, and I share it as needed with the guest. It's unusual for me to use more than 6GB out of a 10GB vdi. Also, I tend not to install any large amounts of software at any one time in the vdi; I install something, play with it, then uninstall it and install something else. That way, I am currently running 9 different distros in a 110GB partition mounted to my host partition on a tower machine. Adding Ultimate in more than 20GB could strain things on the tower.

But I think I don't store nearly so much as many others do. Mostly some text, no music or movies, etc. Mostly I just accumulate operating systems :^].

My problem was that my install of Ultimate halted at 78% when being installed into a 10 GB virtual partition (Virtualbox). I enlarged the partition to 20 GB and the install went to completion. Looking in Dolphin, the install used @12.8 GB in a basic install.

That's biiiig!
