I'd just say its uses a $#!% load. ;) but you end up installing most of what it comes with anyways.

I made the mistake of putting it on a 20 gig partition(gamers edition) added a few more things, downloaded some other big files, and I have 2 something megs left over on the partition....which I should add.If one does the same, and the OS starts to act funky then check to see if you have enough space.Linux wiggs out when its cramped.

So, how much space should I allow for updates and on-the-fly defragging?

I would say add another gig in case you want add something to the app's but this utmost minimal ! I have included a screenshot of my 2.5 on an 18 GIG H/D and it has many other app's than the fresh install and all upgrades available ! :ugeek:

Ok, at least one gig for updates and additional apps, maybe two or three. But how much additional space do I need to allow for the fs's ongoing housecleaning/defragging?

Hello Lynwood .

To give good Answer to your Question - First make the scrip to clean you kernel + packages from your machine.
After you have update this option,Upgrade your Kernel, clean the packages (old once) .
Then you will see the true size of the Drive.
To have the system working GOOD you will need 20-30 GB of Drive to work with.
There is NO - doing Update/Upgrade,There is NO option that you will not install packages,
There is NO option that you will not install plug in's and so on.
Think about it Good.
System work well when all work Together and has all the dependences in order.
when you play with /this i need/this I do not need.... that will not work as it suppose to work.
The Drive defragmentation is Auto, and there is no connection to the space that the system Needz.
