I am noticing (I didn't see if it happened before my last update) that my disk space is shrinking while my computer just sits there. I got a warning that there was 1 GB left on my system. OK, I was surprised since I am pretty good about keeping my drives clean. My rule of thumb is 10-15% open and last I checked, my 77GB partitions had 19GB free. So I moved some files, trashed others and emptied the trash. I checked and yup, 19-20GB free. I always leave the computer running, so I was surprised when I came home from work and got the warning that there was 450 MBfree!
It gave me the option to do something about it or to ignore it. I ignored it and took a look at my disk usage, which had not changed! So went about my business, not downloading, just surfing and reading mail. Then the warning came up taht my system had 0MB free. OK this is some sort of disk swap business... I have 2GB of RAM and a 5GB swap partition so I don't quit e understand what is going on here. Disk Info:
a 200GB SATA with a 77 GB partition for Ultimate Edition.
40GB IDE disk for XP
60GB IDE disk for Win7
60GB IDE disk for storage
80GB external firewire disk for storage

the 40 is the fullest, but still has 10-15% free

Hello billhedrick.

200GB SATA with a 77 GB partition for Ultimate Edition.
40GB IDE disk for XP
60GB IDE disk for Win7
60GB IDE disk for storage
80GB external firewire disk for storage

To me it looks like Grub issue here.
As you have all ready know,3 partition work with Grub - more then that will make the issue for you.
You have more then on your HDD - so it looks like like the issue come from here.
you can shrink the U.E partition but this will not solve the problem.
Just the Grub 2 issue with the IDE sign on the Grub will make some wrong logs because of bugs with the Grub.

OK

thanks. I am running grub 1.97 if I recall correctly, but I will look at it. This is the machine I plan to put 2.6 on so I may not bother to fix it, just wipe the drive and reload in 2 months.

Take away my Ultimate Edition master badge... turns out I didn't have the partition as large as I thought it was, and it is out of space. Weeelllll. Time to backup repartition and reinstall
