Have you tried what dathem said...loading an earlier version...?
If your DVD does load in another machine...we can possibly rule out a bad download an burn..OK
Now with that in mind I did run across a problem few years back where my internal optical drive could not even read a good DVD....an external one did read it fine...go figure.
And i have also bought a new internal..and it did not even work, it did not read anything, got another replacement and it worked fine.
Do not know what version of 2.5 you are trying to boot up...32bit, 64bit, 86bit..?
If you do have a optical issue....then your correct "no one can help".
And cell maybe correct...i have had my bios change to even booting to a floppy disk on the first instead of the optical drive and the second where my install was was the optical, why..?
Have no clue..
And ps...are you running Sata or IDE...?
Could be your cables too...

Us at Ultimate Edition will help...since i dont have to much luck with a USB, I can not help there..:(
Bios..settings if using your DVD should be your optical dive #1
#2 should be your HD on what you want to install...
My choice is to download 2.5 86bit...it had eye's for a laptop and my main computer wireless and wired...
Both run "Hot".....meaning fast...
We will get you there...!!!! ;)

Hello empleyfire .

O.K the way I see it with this post you need to disconnect the HDD that have the MS on it,
And live just the blank 2# HDD connect to your board.
Now - use Parted Magic to format the HDD 2# Before you start the installation on it.
and format the HDD to Unallocated format!
Then when it's done you will be able to go with the installation process.
On the installation process Go to Default video card - yet you do not have the Driver install on the system!
So you will install the Driver "After" the process when you will boot up at the 2 time from the :
System=>Administration=>Hardware Drivers.
After you install the Driver and boot up again make update/upgrade to your System.
when you done with all the process of the installation,
shout done your machine Disconnect the main cable (Black) and connect the 1# HDD back.
Now you will see bout of them on the boot process.
If you will have problem with the MS - then you will have to "fixmbr" then all will be good.
Good luck.

Ultimate Edition 2.3 Gamers works just fine. Most likely i can install it to( i didn't try)
@Amir If it is a hard disk issue i don't know. But unless removing all hard disks makes the UE2.5 Load inn to live session its not gonna help.
I just don't know what to do in terminal as the Gnome thingey does not load.

Ill say again what the problem is.
When i boot whit the UE2.5 DVD or the USB i get a DOS like terminal.
Unless i get a GUI like live session to i can double click the install "OS" im not going to install any Linux.
I just don't know what to type in terminal. Never done that before.
So as you can see Amir Hard disk is not my problem.
Terminal is.
So if i am locked in terminal on boot up.
What do i do?
If any of you have time to morrow (or any day) My MSN: [email protected]
I can borrow the misses laptop when im doing Terminal.

You have 2 Sata drives and 1IDE, am I correct...?
I believe even running a live DVD the recent grub..and no not 2.0, is getting confused...
either disconnect the IDE drive and one sata..see how that works
And your IDE drive is that a 40 pin or 80 pin connection...?

Hi empleyfire.

well if the terminal is the issue then,
tape in the terminal
Code: Select all
sudo startx

then you will be ask for the root pass - write the pass then Enter.
if you use the user then just - startx.

Hi empleyfire,
My thoughts are along the same lines as Amir, however I would suggest the following with a bit of an explanation.
Disconnect all HDD's in your machine (this is just temporary) and then try to boot from the DVD. If it boots into a live session, then we know your issue has to do with the HDD setup. If it has booted up without any HDD's connected, then shutdown reconnect only the HDD you wish to install to and try to boot again from the DVD. If this brings up a live session with the desktop etc.. then proceed with the install. Once install is done, reboot and see if it loads up correctly. Next, reconnect one additional HDD and test. Lastly, reconnect final HDD and test.
I have seen issues where a Live DVD session will not begin due to a mix of Sata and IDE and also because of multiple Sata units.
Another long-shot suggestion, if you have more than 1 ram chip in your PC, remove them and leave 512mb in only.

Let us know how it goes.

Listen to the intelligence flow thanks admin. Rule out and what remains is your culprit ;) Cab had issues as the same due to his Master boot record being stored on multiple drives. MBR you are supposed to only have one of across your entire system. He also did not want to address the situation due to having a ton of O/S's installed. As highlander says "There can be only one." I am agreeing with many posts dropped by admin as this is in my unbiased opinion the culprit. Try a single hard disk and Ultimate Edition 2.5, please post results. If it fixes your issue I can walk you through setting up grub and multiple O/S's. Ultimate Edition 2.5 btw uses grub 2... adding a windows drive is as follows, I will not take credit from Eric, I know I recently had to do the same.

Let me know if a single drive squashes your issues, if so I can walk you though adding the other drives. I do not care if they use an earlier version of grub or if it is Fedora you are running, we are all about open source here right?

I appreciate you being smart enough to open your post as saying you have MD5SUM'd the ISO. I do not want to rule out the burner. I smoke and I go through burners like most ppl go through underwear. The nicotine from smoking cuts the life short on burners, it coats the lens. Lasers are very sensitive when it comes to cutting / reading a disk. I have burners laying around here that can read, but not write dvds & vice versus; none the less laying in a drawer & not in a PC.
