Installed LXDE

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.5

Installed LXDE

Postby billhedrick » Tue Feb 16, 2010 3:46 pm

I was reccommending Knoppix as a quick recovery OS. I love Ultimate Edition, but when you want to do something quick, it's a bit slow to startup - also knoppix fits on a CD. But the thing is looking at knoppix I see the current version uses LXDE as a gui. SO I checked it out and it looked like something I wanted to try. Easiest install ever in Ultimate Edition!

sudo aptitude install lxde

And thats it! Clean bare and runs fine in Ultimate Edition (so far)

true! but I checked Synaptic and the only files not installed by using the terminal
were
lubuntu-desktop
lxnm
libmenu-cache-dev

Now if you have additional repos enabled, you might find more.

LXDE is pretty slick. I love the features it brings while still being low resource. But Knoppix with LXDE is news to me. I'll have to grab the latest version, as Knoppix is what I reach for when I need to recover data.
