cpu temp/usage monitor[SOLVED]

Hi, I recently bought a dell laptop that has a core i7 cpu and am having a few issues with it, and before the knockers and any one suggests returning it, contacting dell etc. been there done that and having on going discussions with various resources to try and rectify the issues.
The main problem is that when the CPU goes into turbo mode it will completely lock up the laptop, the only way to clear the fault is to switch it of then on again(this has been the most common and major issue for all laptops with this cpu) as you can imagine a real pain especially if you are working on important jobs.
I am now at the stage where i am going to install U.E to see how it reacts to this set up. once i have installed U.E i will need a CPU temp/usage monitor that is capable of monitoring a multi thread cpu(8 threads).
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Edit; been reading quite a bit and it seems that as at this time there is'nt anything available that can reliably monitor and report on i7 cpu's, at least not in the current kernels. Or have i misunderstood various Ubuntu threads.

Im not sure about a cpu usage monitor. But i did make a howto for getting temps...it was over a yr ago though and ive never had an i7 so it may not work but its worth a try. Here is the link

I havent used any temp monitor in some time though so the instructions may be a little outdated. If you have trouble though just post back and ill see if i can help.

You may also want to have a look at conky. Ive never used it but it looks as though it could do what your looking for and alot more.

Drama cheers looking into conky. Not sure if it can monitor multi thread yet.
The main thing i need is the usage monitor so that i can see if and when it goes into turbo mode for whatever reason i can see if it reacts the same as in windows.

It can.You just have to add them.Conky as far as I know dosn't have a gui.You will have to write in the other cores for conky to list them.Its pretty easy tho.Everything would be found in the config. file in your (if I remember right) home folder.

You will find that conky can be customized very much....different text,colors,ect. That sort of thing.I wrote (expanded upon someone's else's conky config.) a pretty cool conky config for another distro.I didn't complete it,but it looked nice.

Ill post a very easy conky how-to in a bit if you like.

And no there are some things that are not legal one of which is public display of conky fiddling.
