Install Failed

Attempted to install Ultimate Edition 2.5 x86 from thumbdrive on an Acer One.

Got this dreaded error: /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with error status 256

After doing some chmodding and chowning, I discovered the reason it wouldn't let me log in is because it is out of space and cant create the profile.

On my Acer I have several versions of Ubuntu running along with XP. I allocated 10G of space for Ultimate Edition and it's nearly full.

How much space was I supposed to allocate for this???

Hi, not exactly sure how much space but i give it at least 15GB, 20 is better though.
Don't forget this is a much larger install. It requires at least a DVD to carry the data whereas Ubuntu only needs a CD.

Yea, it's bigger alright--I used a 4G thumbdrive and dropped the image using unetbootin. I installed this on sda8 and sda7 is my swap space. The only empty partition I got is on sda5, so I got some serious rearranging to do if I decide to reinstall this...

Good luck with that, you could try loosing some space from Home initially or reducing swap to get it installed(depending on how good your ram is). then increase it to a usable level.

Well, I had to delete the swap, shrink sda6, build sda7 to 25G. Then create sda8 again and make that the swap.

Then I rebooted and Grub failed. I need to figure a way around that in case that happens again. I guess run a live cd and reinstall Grub?

Anyways, I installed Ultimate Edition from the 4G thumbdrive and it like a dream on the Acer One and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
