Assistance with manual Grub install

So I got Ultimate Edition 2.5 Live working, but whenever I go to install, I get an "Ubiquity" crash, after reading on this forum this is most likely the Grub installer crashing and seems to be common with people running RAID 0 arrays. +

I am attempting to follow the following guide: http://forumubuntusoftware.info/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=4270&p=46856&hilit=ubiquity#p46856, but I am getting kind of confused where I should install Grub etc....

This is how my ls -l /dev/mapper/ looks:
Code: Select all
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252,  1 2010-01-07 21:20 isw_dgacfgcbde_UE2.5Linux
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252,  0 2010-01-07 21:40 isw_dheaheedj_main
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252,  2 2010-01-07 21:40 isw_dheaheedj_main1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252,  3 2010-01-07 21:49 isw_dheaheedj_main2
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252,  4 2010-01-07 21:40 isw_dheaheedj_main3

The Disk Labelled UE2.5Linux is actually my NTFS backup. I am attempting to install Grub too the disk labelled "Main". I did not set-up any kind of special partitioning, and was just set too "Use Entire disk"

Any chance someone might have the time to write out a brief description of what I need to do? I am just to used to how Windows does it's partitioning etc....

I can get any more required information if required.

Regards,
Alamue

Is it crashing while using the partition editor,or some other time?

Grub isn't installed while your in the live mode. Some have had results by uninstalling a package from synaptics called
ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu while in the live mode.

edit:I'm not even sure if that package is in the Ultimate Edition live disk, but worth a look. Also others seem to avoid this crash by setting up the partitions using gparted before using the installer, and then just pointing the installer to the created partitions.

It is crashing right at the end of the installation.

When I disable Bootloader installation, it will complete fine. Except for the fact that I cannot actually boot into the installation without a bootloader.

I know it is crashing between 85-95%.

The weird thing is that it will complete fine, and install perfectly without bootloader being selected to be installed (Via the "advanced" button at final screen). When I then go to Boot it, I just get a blinking cursor

Should I see if I break my main array if that solves the issue?

Reread your last post.

Its late, and I'm pooped...so don't quote me on this one.

Uninstall dmraid from synaptics, and then see if it will work.

Good luck,Im off.Somebody will jump in tho.Just hang in there. If you don't know Grub2 is a beta stage right now,so it can be a small hurdle for some users running raid.
