thank you moebius for support and johnnyg for the link but the md5sum wasn't the same as what was posed. either way i have it and it works. (now to learn how to use it, lol) I've already tinkered with a few things but still experimenting (rubs hands together with an evil laugh). so many toys, so little time. much thanks to you two, an in-deeded credit to our society.

If it doesn't match your system will be unstable.Any errors, performance hits ,and what nots can point directly to that.

Its not like riping an music cd,or a dvd....it has to be perfect. Its a operating system for chris sakes!

Get it done right, and you will enjoy it more.If you don't...you can't blame the os for anything.

Me two cents.

ok guys, this is what i get. after i'm done downloading the file i open it with archive manager. i click on the md5sum in the window and i read down untill i see md5sum and this is what i see, even from the mirror johnnyg posted for me:
d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e ./md5sum.txt
is this what i'm supposed to see or am i looking in the wrong place for this value?
i know what theemahn has posted is different than this and everyone i've talked to says it is supposed to be what theemahn says: MD5SUM: cf13b6229a2094658c64cf815bc606ff

it seems that everywhere i look, i'm just not getting anywhere. i know you guys are trying to help me out and i do appreciate it very much, and i know yall can't "hold my hand " through it, and i'm not saying yall are wrong either. i'm just telling yall what i'm seeing.

Hi diablo1000,
I have re-read one of your posts on page 1 (the one with the big list of MD5Sum numbers) and found an entry about midway down that says:
d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e ./.disk/base_installable
This is exactly the same number you are getting using your method for verifying MD5Sum - so whatever method you are using, it is not giving you the MD5Sum for the entire ISO file.
I have also read above that your current burn is working? If so, and just for your own peace of mind, put a copy of the ISO file you have downloaded onto your 'desktop', then open a terminal window (Applications > Accessories > Terminal).
Now in the terminal window, type md5sum followed by a space, then drag the ISO icon from the desktop and drop it into the same terminal window. You will notice the file name will now be in the window with quotation marks - delete these quotation marks from the end and beginning of the file name and then hit the enter key and wait. After some time, you will see some numbers appear - this is your MD5Sum and should match what is posted on the forum.
It is only up to you if you decide to verify or not and learning to do so is a good skill to have for future reference - otherwise as cell quite correctly pointed out above, you will have issues, it's just a matter of time.
With regard to your 100% CPU usage, see if it is still the same after a few days - some posters have made mention that it could be the system indexing after an installation. If it is still 100% after this time, please post and we'll see what we can do.

Cheers.

i did it like you said moebius :
diablo@diablo-desktop:~$ md5sum /home/diablo/Desktop/ultimate-edition-2.5-x86.iso
cf13b6229a2094658c64cf815bc606ff /home/diablo/Desktop/ultimate-edition-2.5-x86.iso
diablo@diablo-desktop:~$
/\/\/\
was the response.

theemahn has:
Release Name: Ultimate Edition 2.5
Environments: Gnome, KDE, XFCE
Architecture: x86
Filesize: 3,187,867,648 (3.1 GB)
MD5SUM: cf13b6229a2094658c64cf815bc606ff

ding ding ding!!! we have a winner!!!
now that i know to do this i shouldn't have any problem burning it, i do however know i have to burn it as slow as possible. i'll let you know how it goes.

cheers <BREW> <BREW>
