You don't really need a burner "hardware" per say to do verification. All need to do is to use a program like "K3B" an select the feature to that says "verify written data" or something of the sort!! What that will do is verify & compare the data that was written to and generate the output on the md5 hashes!!

I think I figured out my problem, when I set my appearance setting to extra it slowed down my performance so bad it was giving me errors. I set it to normal, now it's running like a top. I've had my computer running since yesterday and I haven't had any problems, even watching a DVD. i followed your advice in using K3b in burning and verifying the DVD I burned for a live DVD.we are running it on my wife's laptop now and she's trying it out. is there a problem with my video card? or am I just trying to run too much for my system load? specs in siggy,welcome any input.

Hi, taking a better look at "siggy" you are lucky to have any acceleration at all ! ATI RAGE 128 is on the verge of inop ! ( And quite frankly I am impressed that you even got it to do anything ! :o you must share this Knowlage :geek: )But any way yes your card is more than likely the issue, you may also be able to "tweak" some, if you try this post from Blackwolf ! ;) viewtopic.php?f=47&t=3336 also open "Compiz settings manager Kill 3D desktop, deform cube,Ect Disable all the "heavy stuff" Inable "desktop wall" You may still be able to have "wobbly" windows and such, experiment with the settings, and try to boost to extra, The cube, Even though you don"t see it, (and it is active) , it is still running, and takes a lot to run, even just running in the background, Check it, see what happens !

Hi Johnny, then I'll share this with you;
I’ll list the specs because my signature will, hopefully, be changing soon :D ;

Gateway (yep the Toys R Us one!!) Intel Core Solo 1.86G, 2G Dual Channel DDR2 Ram
Graphics – integrated Intel GMA950 – 128MB Shared!! :lol:

If I push Compiz to the limits then, yes, I get issues. But;

Wobbly Windows fine.
Simpler window animations running, the complex ones such as airplane & fire stutter a bit.
3D cube enabled, transparent on rotation and ‘mouse rotates’ smoothly with multiple windows open even with a video window running!! If I deform the cube to sphere then I get tearing & stuttering but it still bloody works!
Skydome when animated causes a bit of stuttering so I don’t animate (works smoothly with no windows open, but then what good is that!).
All the fancy window switchers work.

Oh yeah, and all this is with Gnome Do dock running and Conky.

Sometimes I feel like shoving the thing in peoples faces and shouting ‘Look and what Linux can do!!’…… but I’ve been told that sort of behaviour is unacceptable.

I’d like to see a commercial O/S do all that, Linux rocks!

And Diablo10000 seeing as this is your thread I'd best say Hi..... 'Hi from England'...... Like Johnny said play around with your settings to see what your rig will cope with, I reckon you could get most of ya bells & whistles working.
Laptop; Acer - Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2Ghz, 3G DDR2 Ram, Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64, Western 250G SATA HD, NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS, Blu-Ray Optical Drive
Docked; Maxtor 500G HD, Creative 24bit Sound Card, NAD 3240PE Amp, Cyrus 781 Speakers

The rage 128 gpu was my first.It let me play Diablo in the 80's....I still have the card.I stuck a nvidia 5600 in my machine once too....both will draw the desktop on your monitor,and thats about it.Don't expect flashy things/games to happen with those cards(the ones you have).If you have a agp slot on your motherboard then I would look into an nvidia agp card...unless you want to go balls out,and buy all new hardware.

If you plan on running Linux with the new hardware then make sure everything is compatible with it.If you don't do the research until its to late you might be disappointed.
