CPU sluggish-How do I adjust it? [SOLVED]

Do some Intel m's scale,and some don't?My lappy runs a m,and it has no scaling in any os...no option in bios.Granted I don't know poop about Intel.

Cell, I have no option for scaling in PhoenixBIOS either. My knowledge of Intel CPU is limited at best.

The link that Moebius provided is very helpful and should shed some more light on this topic. The Blogger at the link, seems to be having a similar situation I was having (Intel M Centrino). Also many of the posters comments on this Blog were helpful, too!

My understanding is that the M processors are designed as an ultra low voltage solution that can scale down the frequency of the processor when it is not required to increase battery longevity. In order to use this function though, I believe you must have an appropriate chipset and mainboard to handle the scaling. If the mainboard does not support it, you will not be able to use it. Along similar lines, my E8400 processor can be overclocked out the wazoo if I wanted to, however I also chose an Intel Mainboard that will not allow me to overclock - chosen for stability/reliability. Some laptops are also designed to handle scaling automatically and not allow you or the operating system to do so. Lots of variables there.

Cool thanks man,but what I was pointing out is the fact that my "m" is incapable of stepping...not saying yours is also.I just was wondering if some do step,and other don't?


Tho I just noticed mine is a celeron.

Ahhh.Lol.Thanks man I just read your post.I have no idea what my chipset is.Its just some cheap Acer I picked up with a bad drive maybe from '07. Linux always worked good outa the box with it.The battery never kept a charge,but hey I think I only paid a hundred bucks for it.
