Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.5

Driver issues

Postby specialist125 » Sun Dec 20, 2009 8:52 pm

Well the other day my friend wanted to get his feet wet in Linux since he see me using it all the time. He just got a new laptop and decided to ditch windows 7. I got Ultimate Edition 2.5 installed on his system, but I couldn't get him connected to the Internet with his hardware to save the life of me. He has this computer Satellite T135-S1310http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?poid=452837. I went and got the wireless drivers from the Toshiba website http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=2439366&rpn=PST3AU&modelFilter=&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663 and used cabextract and loaded the .inf files in ndiswrapper with windows wireless drivers and that didn't work It showed hardware detected but it would never turn on. I also did it from the command line and loaded it up and edited the /etc file and that also didn't work. Oh i should also note that when I checked under hardware drives I showed nothing oh and yes I did update his system first with my spare USB wifi card. So at first I thought it was a wireless issue but decided to plug him into my router with ether cable and I realize that that didn't work either. So now I'm completely lost because usually that usually works but I never had the experience where neither one worked. I'm still trying to get this to work for him but ah I'm in the dark without a flashlight. I feel bad cause he has a laptop that is pretty useless to him in this state as of now.

Hello, Sorry that you are having so much trouble, I never had an issue getting linux to see a network connection. My first question is when you booted up the computer, ( I assume from the live DVD) were you connected to the network to do the whole installation of Ultimate Edition 2.5? If it worked then during the installation, there is no good reason why it won't now, unless something happened during the installation to foul things up. If that is the case, please reinstall and see if that fixes the problem. Sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully someone else will soon respond.

Well we did a usb install and I did notice that wireless wasnt active during the live session but I didnt check the other connections because usually wireless can be a royal pain. My intention were to get it all install and updated and then workout the bugs. But in this case the bug was more like a pile of crap and I got to clean it up.

well it says the hardware is detected but it doesnt seem like its enable and when i checked network manager nothing was their just like if the driver wasnt installed. I think its more in depth than that when it doesn't work when using the cat5 cable from the router even that dont work.

witblits1970 I don't want to change the subject and you can move this if you want but I have the same problem with the Tar file myself  but I just found this site http://laptoplogic.com/resources/a-begi ... x-software I haven't tried it yet but it looks simple enough. Hope that this helps.
