Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.5

Attitude problem in your view, or not, I previously stated I downloaded and
burned 2 dvd´s, assuming everyone here checks MD5´s and uses the slowest possible
burn rate. Moebius seemed to indicate that the dsl problem is known, and as I stated,
there is another post with a similar Synaptic issue, is it related? Or should we all just
move on?

Lets get the issue fixed pls ppl :) We are trying to convert not the opposite. :D

Blackwolf that rules is not necessary to be highlighted in that fashion, no one step out of place here, except mcgo. We can't all assume that everything forum member/end user "did" or know about how to md5sum an iso and burning it at low burning speed. To my knowledge here, alot of members never even know that a process call md5sum even existed or burning the iso at fast speed could affect the quality of the end product!! Some forum members just feel like they can be rude any and everywhere without anyone saying anything to them. "I DON'T" play that time of game!!

Is either he corporates/follow suite with protocols or be warned for been rude

Diferences in view points will always exist. I agree with Blackwolf, and if necessary offer
my apologies to Darkchild for bruised senitivities! Being old school I only reply to divergences
in my actions with regard to established norms, as in this case wth normal download and burn
procedures. I need help with these issues and my limited number of posts reflect my admiration
for Thee Mahn, the community, and the product. I think we all got stiffed by Canonical with
the 9.10 release since I´ve never had a problem with an Ultimate Edition distro.

Not at all.
What I would suggest, try running Synaptic from a terminal and when it 'crashes' look at the output in the terminal for a possible heads up on what may be causing your issue.

Cheers.

If I understand right synaptics threw up errors in the live mode.Mine did too.Not a big deal.I said it before...I really don't care what errors I get running live mode.It doesn't matter.Once I get the os installed, and then if I get errors then I know something legitimate is going on.

In which case every version of karmic gave me errors in live mode....once installed neither of em had the same errors (if any) than in the live environment.

Yep...I agree, but we do have a choice to use it or not.Free of charge.<not directed to anyone in general.

Trying to be objective and brief:
Moebius - the third post of this thread indicated that the DSL problem is an issue with the network manager
in 9.10 and that I had hoped that a fix would be ready for 2.5

Cell - The best selling tool for a Linux distro is a fully functional live DVD. I use Knoppix, Ultimate Edition,
and more recenly Sabayon to demonstrate to potencial users how far Linux has evolved. Diving
into terminal, applying patches or adding missing pieces is a show stopper in my view. Why three
diferent distros? In about 45 minutes you can show that more than one option exists. Ultimate Edition has
been the best x64 over the last 2+ years and most love the fact that everything is there and it
worked out-of-the-box until 9.10.

I dearly hope that I have not offended anyone, and wish all happy holidays, those past, or about to begin.

I agree with you.But you expect to much.No way in hell the live disk,or the installed system will work on everyones machine....perfectly.

Why do I have three distros?Well You need the right tool for each specific job right?

Has it?...worked out of the box?No it hasn't(in general).Least from what I read, and not for the majority.I don't blame this on Ultimate Edition tho. After all Ultimate Edition is built off of ubuntu.

The network manager problem is with dsl setup in live mode which didn´t work in 9.10, and
someone indicated that a patch/work around existed. Started in 2.4 and though you´d catch it in 2.5.

The Synaptic thing is interesting. In live mode the first time you call it up and ask it
to actualize(i.e. check for updates) it runs, shows the files and the moment you start
typing a search word it crashes. The second time you run it everything works fine.
I did have one failure when it crashed immediately after the updated list appeared
however this never repeated.

Needed synaptic for nvidia and flash player not-free.

I´ve downloaded and burned 2 dvd´s of 2.5 and the problem appeared on both.

Ok, I think we got a little off track, I am running the live 2.5 right now and yes synaptic did crash first time but when reopened all went well I installed flash player, and bubblemun monitor applet and they work fine, So that is probably inherent to the live run on all machines,Now for the dsl issue what exactly is the issue ? can you connect at all live? Just trying to understand what the issue is as I have never had to configure anything but wireless, and even that was some what painless

JOHNNYG - The problem is configuring a DSL connection through the network manager onscreen
applet. It allows you to add dsl values, confirm keyring passwords and then will not connect! The problem is
in 9.10, as well as Ultimate Edition 2.4 and 2.5. The only way to get online with DSL is through pppoeconf in terminal.
There were rumblings about a patch/work around being available just after the 2.4 release and I had hoped,
as stated previously, it would/could be implemented in 2.5.

I´d also like to thank you for confirming my sanity with the Synaptic problem 8^))
