Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.5

Do you guys use any PPA's in addition to the standard repo's

Postby brjoon1021 » Wed Dec 16, 2009 9:52 pm

Hi,

I will be using Ultimate again with the 2.5 release. For the last year or so I have been using a minimal install CD of ubuntu and then adding apps. I had probably about 20 PPA's in addition to backports, multiverse and the standard repos. Anyway, an upgrade of mplayer that required some package called libdvpau-195 for Nvidia's driver continually broke my system. I am blaming it on using PPA's.

so, I was wondering if you guys stick to pretty much the repositories that come enabled with each ubuntu release or if you add PPA's and repos. My extra PPA's and repos worked well for nearly a year before this screw-up that I could not fix, by the way.

Is ultamatix completely safe now ?

Thanks,
b

I use em all the time. Most are stable, but just haven't work their way to the main repo's yet( the apps). Some are unstable, and only for testing. You have to be careful which ones you use on your production box.Ideally you should only use the repos that came with the ubuntu os.Ultamatix is is just another app using Ultimate Edition's repos.I found it to be generally harmless if not up to date,or having outdated apps that you can't install in Karmic.
