Help Remastersys and Ultimate Edition 2.5 "backup"

Postby specialist125 » Wed Dec 16, 2009 2:18 am

I been trying to backup my full system using Remastersys. The problem is every thing says it goes fine and the .iso is created in the folder I tried burning the .iso to disk and running it in another system but it seem to hang some how. I also tried it in Virtualbox and that seem a bit better It booted to the login screen but would never log into the account. Now, I was think it was because I run my system off my portable hd, but I dont know. I tried burning the discs at low speed like 2x once in K3b, once in Brasero, and then I copied the .iso and use my windows system with imgburn. Well I dont know why this is happening an I guess I will try the other copy features and see if it will work to try and pinpoint my problem. I would like to use this program cause I like what it does this way i can take my system without taking my hd if i choose to and make copies for my frineds if need be.

You can check the log files in the remastersys folder.Or start the process over again in a terminal and see what the output is when it errors out.

well when you say check the log file I'm assuming that you mean the log for the burnt disc. Well the disc seem to be good well to a certain point. I ran the disc in my virtualbox on my other pc and the disc that contain the distribution version loaded up well. The full back up disc that I ran loaded to the login screen but when I entered my password I started to load then something must have went wrong and It went back to that login screen.

update : but those same disc will not load when i restart and run from disc

Sounds to me like there are major issues going on with your remastered version of the os. I will suggest that you remove the temp files/clean the files from your remaster directory, restart an try again. If not, you better do a reinstallation of Ultimate Edition and try again because you maybe have broken packages/errors in your file system ect that is causing your remastered iso to be giving problems because the remastering process copied the errors from your installed system!!

You may not have broken packages in synaptic's eyes but could exist else where in the system. Other than removing the temp files and try again or doing a clean installation, I don't have anymore suggestions for you!!

Good luck.
