/home folder or partition [SOLVED]

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.5

/home folder or partition [SOLVED]

Postby specialist125 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 4:03 am

Ok, I previously had Ultimate Edition installed with out a separate partition for /home. I did a fresh install of Ultimate Edition 2.5 and I manually created /, /home, and swap all three where logical partitions. My question is this because I can't tell if the /home I'm using is just a folder created under / or if its linked to the /home partition I created how do you tell? I figured it was a good time to do this since its a fresh install so when another version release I don't lose all my data and config files just install the new / and I'm done.

Run Gparted. That will show real (or logical) partitions, but won't show subfolders. If Gparted shows three partitions, then that is what you have.

And a separate /home partition is, for most of us, the best way to fly.

Thanks, but I have figured it out. When i look under Nautilus it doesn't show the other partition as being mounted or linked but when I look at my system under Thunar it does show those partition as being mounted and shows my home folder under the correct partition. I can also tell its linked cause If I go to / and click home folder it changes to the other partition (/home) which is what I wanted to make sure of.
