Ubuntu Tweak

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.5

Ubuntu Tweak

Postby Moebius » Sat Dec 05, 2009 6:43 am

Testing through Ultimate Edition 2.5 32 Bit edition, I noticed an issue with Ubuntu Tweak. Straight from install, Ubuntu Tweak will not allow you access to Third-Party Sources. This was also an issue with Ultimate Edition 2.4. To rectify this problem, please take the following steps:

open your terminal, first import the key:
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com FE85409EEAB40ECCB65740816AF0E1940624A220

type the command to run gedit(or other editor in your opinion) to modify the sources.list:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

And put the following two lines into it

Then update the source and install or upgrade Ubuntu Tweak:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

Cheers.

I am running 32 bit currently as well, I do not witness this issue. Please explain the difference and did not require any gpg key. I will fresh install to test if necessary. I said no showstopers and I ment it. I do understand I have no control over issues in ubuntu-tweak, I am looking for an answer. If you had an issue with this prior you should have brought it to my attention at that time. I count on admin/mods for that. 51 of them, not bringing in beta or local testers.

If you had an issue with this in 2.4, why I do not yet know. You certainly should have informed me I guess is the bottom line. Weather I see as an issue let me handle that.

It is all good, I would have preferred to be aware. It is a difference in the ppa version. It has 0 to do with Ultimate Edition currently. Do you think I should include in the distro ubuntu-tweak ppa? Evidentually mobious does ;)

Let me break this down gents, I try and give you the best of the best as I build it & strip the sources before building. To let the enduser decide what he / she wants. You may want Ubuntu tweak does not mean the next guy / girl will. Best option? Remove all sources let them make the decision.

As it should be...I remember some of this stemmed from Ultamatix way back earlier when some were complaining the repo's were left in what Ultamatix would draw from...final decision was to remove them when Ultamatix finished. This should also apply here. With what Thee already includes in Ultimate's install, anything else can be easily added. Also, there have been enough posts around here dealing with adding to / deleting from the Source.lst. Even the newest user shouldn't have too many problems with that. I don't us Ubu's Tweak, as I prefer to do my own tweaking...wasn't aware of any problem with it due to that.

As written by MoebiusIt is very true!
I wrote about the topic in our forum and short guide of the first process of the user must do.
Although the post was intended for TexasMike entire team.

mobiousThe process is not recorded accurately!
Here's the correct process - to be performed after installing the system as one of the first steps.
From our Forum page 599:

Open terminal and copy past the Process please:

Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Then:
Code: Select all
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

Then:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com FE85409EEAB40ECCB65740816AF0E1940624A220

Then:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

[b]Then on the upgrade process insert Y to the process:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

Then:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get upgrade

Any way that will be on My new Guide 2.4-2.5 that I have start to work on just now!!
on the old Guide the same process was add to the Guide just the same!!

Amir it is not about you or no guide, plus i didn't need to see all the guide to know if the steps listed above were working. I am simply saying that nothing was wrong with the steps/instructions that Moebius posted above. And there is more than one way to do something!!
