No, I tryed to do what the micks mix said before and managed to get the backtack repositories into my synaptics, but I could not get the menu part right and then I ended up doing a fulll reinstall incase I messed anything up with the pearl script as I didnt understand the gpg key and how to do the script.
I,ve installed the Geany thing and will try again but could of done with the process explaiining easier as the way its explained in the link is a bit hard to get for me.
What do you think ?? Was hoping that someone on this forum could do a better step by step to follow. :?:
I'm dying to get it right so I'll try it again and say exactly what and where i'm getting stuck..OK.
If I kill mysystem again, , Ill reinstall and wait to see if theres another guide done!! :?
Thanks Cell for your replies, just out of intrest has anyone else got this to work???
See you all in a bit.......deeds3353 <BREW>

So fingers crossed this time...im waiting for the pacages to finish now then its the dreaded perl...back in a mo :P
Copy the following code and save it to a file?? I saved mine to a file called UpdateBTMenu.pl
THIS I NEED EXPLAINING? HOW? :? See this is the part that gets the tools working in gnome and moves them from OTHER to BACKTRACK in the Applications menu.

Well, i tried just as "almost promised" The end results are everything is installed and working without errors, but i didn't get the menu structured the way it is in the screen shot. I am not thinking that maybe something is wrong/there maybe some missing steps with the menu part!!

I got the same result Darkchild.

From what I understand Backtrack is a custom distro that uses ubuntu repo's.I read multiple times installing on ubuntu might bork the system.Tho I don't understand how?The best way to have both was to install it in a virtual system.Least that's from what I read.

Ill keep poking at it,but now I have to go shopping with the wife.....

oh ya...I'm getting the apps under the "other" tab.

Its 12am over here in sunny england so I guess I'm in for a long night again, haha, for some reason they dont work right in the other folder and all the tools that I want arnt there, typical, Im sure I did it right but like you say there may be sommat missing .
I'm going to do ANOTHER reinstall then I'll try again, gutted, I'm just hoping that one of you guys that are more advanced than me can suss it out because theres nothing more I would like to see than a "solved" on this thread, or post, whatever, At least I managed to get all the packages to install in the terminal so I'm getting closer??
Thank You All For Trying to help and I hope we can crack this one!!!!

12am over here in sunny england

Sunny? It hasn't started to snow yet?I have a mate over there right now...he can't make his mind up if he wants to stay home,or live out here in the states.

Ill still poke at it,but was wondering for your application if running the distro in a virtual environment is out of the question? Not trying to cop out...just think it will be more stable from what I read on the BackTrack forums.

SUNNY??, I was been sarcastic, I dont think it ever sunny over here!
I understand that that the virtual route is one that I can take, but unfortunately Backtrack is so difficult to use and I can use ubuntu alot easier.
When I saw the MickMix link I thought "Thats Perfect, what a challange", and hence the days worth of trying  ,
I,m just going to try a 9.10 base build, incase its the kubuntu doing something ( like the perl script that alters the menu??), And then I'll get back to you when I've put UU2.5 back on.
Thanks for trying to get me through this difficult time :( :D The attitude of people on this forum is sooo much better than other places I have been,BT, and I dont expect it to all be done for me, as you can see I'm really trying , but I'm new to computers and have only been using them for 12 mths. Anyway its nice for somebody to help insted of slagging you or talking down to you from pc god heaven,
THANK YOU, and please lets crack this challange guys!!!!!! <BREW> :ugeek: deeds3353
