deeds3353,
To go to the directory where the file you specified in your previous post is located:
1: Click on
Applications>Accessories>Terminal2: Type or copy/paste the following into the terminal:
- Code: Select all
cd /home/deeds3353/
3: Next, type or copy/paste the following (but read this entire post before continuing with the next step):
- Code: Select all
tar xzvf gerix-wifi-cracker-ng-r20.yar.gz
4: perform whatever tasks you have been directed to with the resulting files. I do not have or use this particular WIFI file, so am not familiar with it's peculiarities or requirements, so follow the instructions given by the distributor or maker of the file in question.
My instructions here are only for gaining access to the correct directory and un-archiving the file. Most likely, however, the extracted file will make it's own folder and un-archive into that folder. BUT... there is a chance this file may NOT make it's own folder and extract into it, so... if I were doing this I'd most likely make a folder for the file, place a copy of the original downloaded file in that folder, change directory to that folder then issue the command to un-archive it there - this keeps all parts of the file in one place, and seperate from other files that may also be in your home directory or the folder currently containing the file you are working with. If you would like to do that then follow these steps :
In a terminal window type or copy/paste the following:
1:
- Code: Select all
cd /home/deeds3353
(and press Enter on the keyboard)
2:
- Code: Select all
mkdir install-temp
(and press Enter on the keyboard)
3:
- Code: Select all
cp gerix-wifi-cracker-ng-r20.tar.gz ./install-temp/
(and press Enter on the keyboard)
4:
- Code: Select all
cd install-temp
(and press Enter on the keyboard)
5:
- Code: Select all
tar xzvf gerix-wifi-cracker-ng-r20.tar.gz
(and press Enter on the keyboard)
Of course this can work for any file of this type. Simply change the filename as appropriate. When you are done using the files in the
install-temp directory, you can delete them without loosing the original file you downloaded, because we copied it to the
install-temp directory, and left the original in the directory in which the download was saved originally - available for use again, should the need arise.
If anyone else uses these instructions, be sure to change the filename, username, etc., as needed to make it correct for your needs.
Let me know if you were helped by this information....
