My bootloader won't work with Ultimate Edition 2.4

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.4

My bootloader won't work with Ultimate Edition 2.4

Postby old tech » Sun Dec 06, 2009 8:38 am

I have installed version 2.4 four times and my third party boot loader won't pick it up. I never had a problem till now. Its on my computer on partition 8 but I can't access it.
I use Xandros LILO for its bootloader only. It works on all OS's except Ultimate Edition 2.4. I have 5 other OS's on my computer.

Question. Why do you use LILO? I am suggesting that you make your Master Boot Record/Bootloader be GRUB. OR tell you what, when your installing Ultimate Edition 2.4 an reach the last step which should be step 8, just select the advance option and select to install grub in your windows partition "if you have a windows os on your hard disk" If not install it in the same partition that your installing Ultimate Edition 2.4 in!!

LILO in Xandros is a gui menu looks very nice and very easy to organize apposed to grub looking like a 1990 DOS screen. I have been using it for years. I put grub2 on the same partition as Ultimate Edition 2.4. When my bootloader scanned it did not find the operating system. With old grub it always found it.

Question is there any way i can change it back to grub.

The thing is i don't use either grub except one time so my bootloader can detect a OS.

:?: :? What Is it you are asking ? if you want to install Ultimate Edition 2.4 or 2.5 ,GRUB2 ext4 is the default boot loader and it can be customized, And it will detect your other operating systems, ;)

Hi old tech,
What I see here is that Lilo will not identify EXT4.
So your options are:
1. Go with Grub2 or
2. Install Ultimate Edition 2.4/2.5 etc.. using EXT3 - which Lilo will identify.
EXT4 is the default setting at startup so you will need to partition manually to EXT3 during install.

Your choice.

Yes I checked. The format utility gives me a drop down menu with all the possible formats.I had to select one and I selected EXT3.
You are correct Moebius My bootloader will not find the new installation of Ultimate Edition 2.4. It finds all earlier versions ok.
Lilo can find all other OS's including Ultimate Edition 2.2 2.3
