Hi g0O.

well as you have ask here are some options for you to fix your MBR for vista.
BTW- we The Team have post some tools for fixing the MBR for vista and MS 7,
you can look in search for the "FIXMBR".
So here is the help for you to fix the MBR on MS vista.

http://www.lancelhoff.com/how-to-fix-vi ... ken-vista/
http://www.sysint.no/nedlasting/mbrfix.htm
http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/fix-mbr-xp-vista/
http://www.winvistatips.com/fix-mbr-t116.html

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note To start the computer from the Windows Vista or Windows 7 DVD, the computer must be configured to start from the DVD drive. For more information about how to configure the computer to start from the DVD drive, see the documentation that is included with the computer or contact the computer manufacturer.

Bootrec.exe options
The Bootrec.exe tool supports the following options. Use the option that is appropriate for your situation.

Note If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:

* bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
* c:
* cd boot
* attrib bcd -s -h -r
* ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
* bootrec /RebuildBcd

/FixMbr
The /FixMbr option writes a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-compatible MBR to the system partition. This option does not overwrite the existing partition table. Use this option when you must resolve MBR corruption issues, or when you have to remove non-standard code from the MBR.
/FixBoot
The /FixBoot option writes a new boot sector to the system partition by using a boot sector that is compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. Use this option if one of the following conditions is true:

* The boot sector has been replaced with a non-standard Windows Vista or Windows 7 boot sector.
* The boot sector is damaged.
* An earlier Windows operating system has been installed after Windows Vista or Windows 7 was installed. In this scenario, the computer starts by using Windows NT Loader (NTLDR) instead of Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr.exe).

/ScanOs
The /ScanOs option scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. Additionally, this option displays the entries that are currently not in the BCD store. Use this option when there are Windows Vista or Windows 7 installations that the Boot Manager menu does not list.
/RebuildBcd
The /RebuildBcd option scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7. Additionally, this option lets you select the installations that you want to add to the BCD store. Use this option when you must completely rebuild the BCD
.

If your hard drive encounters a serious error (perhaps a failed operating system install, corruption or a virus) then you may get an "Error Loading Operating System" message on boot.

This often means that you have a corrupt Master Boot Record (MBR) which can be fixed with the Vista repair tool. This should be one of the first things done to resolve the above error message, as performing a format and reinstall will cause a loss of data.

First, insert the Vista DVD into the computer and restart it (to start the boot process). You will be asked to press any key to boot from the DVD:

Then, fill in the language and location options and click Next:

2

Now, click Repair your Computer:

3

Then, select your Vista partition and click Next:

4

Select Command Prompt from the system recovery options window:

5

Once you are at the command prompt, run the following commands:

Bootrec.exe /fixMBR
Bootrec.exe /fixBoot

fixmbr6.jpg
6

The first command fixes the Master Boot Record, and the second fixes the Boot Sector (just in case it is also damaged).

You can now close the command prompt, remove the Vista DVD and click Restart. This should reload Windows with a repaired MBR:

It might brake things after updates, but you can edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

I have tested it by adding an OS from a separate partition on my Laptop.
(One that Ultimate Edition install did not see)

For those wanting to look into grub 2 more, below are some sites with more info.
(I am not very 'thrilled' with Grub2so far, JohnTN and I have spent MANY hours trying to get grub 2 to properly find existing OS's with varying success)

Here are a few links with Grub 2 Information:

Have found another bootloader with promise, Chameleon, but it is used primarily by OSX hackintosh users. I would love to see if this could be installed without an OSX hack. The screens are configurable with themes and already several themes have been created by its users

Not sure if I should post the link. Please advise. If this is acceptable, I will.

Go for it nesnfsn, I'm sure that someone might be interested in seeing what you found. Myself included since I haven't heard of it before. Who knows, might even learn something. ;)
