OK, I am not sure what to do with that code. Do I append that to a file or enter that in the terminal?

heres how to make an xorg.conf file ,and use it.

Code: Select all
sudo service gdm stop

will kill x the nice way

Code: Select all
sudo Xorg -configure

will make a new xorg.conf. also it will show what you have enabled.

Code: Select all
sudo servive gdm start

will get you into x.When you made a new xorg.conf there was a massage saying where it was saved. Go to it,and check it out.You can edit it there also.

Oh ya....if you want to try the new exorg.conf while after step 2 then ...

Code: Select all
X -config /where it was saved/xorg.cong.new

If you want karmic to use it then you have to put it in the x11 folder.

I used this to make a xorg.conf to try to get s-video out.It works...the method that is.I never got s-video out.The driver just doesn't support it in the rv5xx,and rv6xx cards.

OK that was funky
the first command got me back to the black screen where I had to log in, and it stayed in what I would call "BIOS" mode if in windows. I entered the other lines of code after I logged in and got back to my desktop. The search box came up and it was full of static, so it doesn't seem like that worked. The screenlet sysmon was static-y as well.

Sorry....that won't fix it...you have to edit the xorg.conf file. your self. to make it stick just put the new xorg.conf file in the x11 folder when in sudo.Turn off compiz if you have it running.

cell did the new exorg.conf work for you?

It did,but it didn't.S-video isn't supported on the rv5xx cards very well.So...if it was supported it would work.I did manage to get s-video out,but it wasn't usable.I had to go in remotely to try to configure it,because I lost the screen, but even then it didn't really recognize s-video.I do have some older cards that are said to be supported...I guess Ill have to make an separate box for linux.

But...that is the correct way to make an xorg.conf. in karmic....if your not using proprietary drivers.

billhedrick,

Interesting that I got the same thing you did using vga instead of dvi...so it might just be a driver flook.

Hi.

I have an ATI all-in-wonder, based on the Radeon 9600.

The problem is that randomly when I start the PC, sometimes everything is white. I can see only the mouse pointer and that's all. But in the back looks like things are workin': when I press the F12 key to open the Guake Terminal and write the reboot command it works. Once it reboots everything is OK.

So what is it? It didn't happened whit the previous versions of Ultimate Edition

Thanks.
