when i try to boot to or install any ubuntu derivitive on this old pc when the load bar comes up it starts out normal then it splits into two like some kind of video issue it does this with the onboard video an ati card and an nvidia card. i loaded failsafe defaults in bios and also tried tweeking some of the settings. it also does the same with damn small linux acorn and any other linux i tried i'm lost, anyone got any suggestions?

Did you turn off the onboard when you used the nvidia?

yes, i'm now attempting to flash bios but i dont have any floppys can this be done with a cd

Not on a older pc...usually.Why would you want to flash the bios?Most mother board manufactures have a bios flasher on their web site.Check to see if this is the case for you.
