Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.3

Main Theme Issues...

Postby Ronny50 » Wed Sep 23, 2009 11:02 pm

Why hasn't it been figured out yet that with the main theme of Ultimate Edition, many fields on various sites
are either blacked out or light blued out??

I mean, I like this OS, but it is very annoying to not be able to read what you are typing in any
field. I have a hotmail account and several of the fields on that site are not read-able and can't
see what is being typed.

And I don't really want to change the OS theme to a different one right out of the box! I mean...
come on! This has been the case since Ultimate Edition 2.0!

Let me tell you why I changed the theme pack for Ultimate Edition 2.4. Complaints on gnome look and giving me a bad rating (I am done testing with them). I could make a perfect theme and would have to start with a 30% rating and have to work my way back up to 50% I started with. The individuals that gave me a bad rating are now done. It is now high gloss black, I have left the red, blue and green alone the default has changed. I have not even began to write the firefox extention for it to make it just that a perfect theme.

The current Ultimate Edition 2.4 theme is perfect as long as the program "complies" to GTK standards, let me give you an example of one that does not comply:

Lets try the Ultimate Edition 2.2 theme:

Hmm, I can barley read it...

Lets try the 2.0 theme:

Well look at that, they must assume every user in the nix world uses a light theme. You don't hard code colors into your app unless you are going to set the fore color, the back color and the font color.

Believe me I know, Look at Ultamatix... I hard coded the colors fonts and backcolor in the bottom box in the main window. I do not care what theme you use you will be able to read it.

To all devs ether comply or hard code. It does piss me off programmers assume the end user will be using a light theme. Firefox is no exception, this is why I have to waste my time to make firefox look right by writing an extension. Extra work for me that I should not have to do.

Light or dark it should be just readable...

I doubt they even test different themes..

Just my 2 cents,

A little bit of searching yields some interesting results. ;)

Well, can you please guide me to a theme that works great with the majority of sites?

Of course, I'm not a fan of the light themes either.

crazy stuff man...

well 2.3 was just released and now I'm being told that 2.4 is the way to go.
Frankly, I didn't want to be a beta tester.

If it is stable I will try it. If not, I don't want to mess with it. I'm tired of
messing around with broken stuff. I just want something to work.

And I really don't think Linux is any better than Windows. It's just the other
side of the fence. You know? where the grass is suppose to be greener?

NOT. It is a different color... but that's about it. And now I hear the virus
attacks are beginning to head down the Linux path too.Like we didn't see
THAT coming. Hey... Microsoft could always hire people to write viruses
for Linux to keep people off Linux. Ya never know...

EDIT: Thanks for your suggestion on the change of appearance, but I tried
the one you suggested and it does NOT work with Hotmail. The fonts can
be seen faintly, but not clearly.

Hello Ronny50 and welcome to the U.E Forum.

1- The new theme pack for U.E 2.4 is way Deference from 2.3,
work just fine for me and for all and it is very stable.
2-
NOT. It is a different color... but that's about it. And now I hear the virus

well Linux do not have viruses unless you as user insert it by yourself!
If you use just packages from your Distro and not from the net,
There will be no virus on your machine, windows virus will not harm Linux!
Any way you have Anti virus install on the system as default!

And I really don't think Linux is any better than Windows. It's just the other
side of the fence. You know? where the grass is suppose to be greener?

well you know who say that kind of things right?
the same person that do not know how to Dance because he says the floor curve.

Linux is by all means Different from windows, just take your time to learn it ;)

Nobody is telling you to go with 2.4 - infact, 2.4 is not even out. jrphorbin is advising you about the proposed Ultimate Edition 2.4 Themes which are available for you to try (if you wish). Nobody is asking you to be a Beta tester. You have the freedom to do whatever you wish! :)

Freedom of choice is exactly what we are about. If you want something that just works with no problems, you could always try an abacus. :P

Every persons opinion is valid and should be respected. I don't agree with your opinion, but I do respect it. ;)

There is much much more to it than meets the eye Ronny50. Again I respect your opinion, however suggest that the comment above comes more from ignorance about the whole Linux movement than actual researched knowledge. We are not here to make a better 'Windows', we are here to offer something different, something involving community spirit and input from everyone. Whilst some of your comments could be seen as inflammatory, to us it is not an issue. We don't seek monetary rewards for what we do and we really don't mind if you prefer Windows - but we do believe in what we are doing and take great pride in that. If you wish to share in this sense of community, then you are by all means welcome. If not, that's O.K. too. We thank you for your feedback and leave the door open should you ever wish to participate. :)

In peace.
