In synaptic, choosing pavucontrol shows a long list of things it will uninstall, most k apps included. The pulse audio device chooser (padevchooser) depends on pavucontrol.

Which one to go with? The one that will provide system-wide eq, and it looks the the best bet is Pulse Audio.

I would use the VLC eq but they can't code it to remember the settings.
I used FFDshow eq in windows, worked great, never had any problems setting it up and using it.

I keep trying to get linux to do what I consider basic stuff, maybe I expect too much.

Reinstall seems the best bet now to avoid another 3 hours fighting this.

linuxux ,

If you chose to work with Pulse Audio do not un install any package from synaptic!
just install the packages to work and cover all the options for the control of pulse Audio!!
do not un install any packages please,I have post you the links for help.
just follow the instructions there to get Pulse Audio to work.
If you will un install packages then you will have no Audio on your system.

OK I'm going to try the links again. But it seems more than a simple audio issue, since the system wont detect my usb audio at all.

I reloaded from an image I made, so sound is working again, the default kmix is fine for now.
In the next few days maybe I'll work on the EQ again.
I'll post in http://forumubuntusoftware.info/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=3858 which is becoming a double thread now.
