I still have Evolution in the Taskbar. It came with UE2.3 along with CheckMail. I did not know if just having these programs installed, but not using them, would interfere with any similar programs.

cant hurt to uninstall them you can always get them back through synaptic, just that i remember some others having problems with mail clients and one of the solutions was to remove evolution or whatever was the default installed client.

I forward all my Road Runner email to Gmail, because I have a 7Gb Inbox, with Gmail, instead of a 100Mb Inbox, with Road Runner, and because the Gmail app, on my cell phone, displays my email more clearly than any other app I have tried with Road Runner. I use my cell phone, to check my email, when I am out of the house

Since Gmail is a Web Based email system, I was under the impression that needed to use Web Based apps to access it.

Before I switched to Gmail, I used Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, and Thunderbird, which were all Pop3 clients, like Evolution. Road Runner has it's own Web Based email client, as well.

The Gmail gadget, for Windows Vista and Windows 7 worked great. The Gmail screenlet for Ubuntu worked fine until Ultimate Edition 2.2.

I gotcha...Honestly I never set up a email client until this thread....had no idea how they worked too.I just always went to my email server to check the mail. But if it went from it working in 2.2(I'm assuming this) to it not working in 2.3 then I would say something is wrong with gmail configuration....Since 2.2,and 2.3 are the same except for the added desktop managers....and since other members that are using 2.3 and gmail have no problems.

At least thats how I see it.

Since Gmail is a web email client, it just involves launching Firefox and navigating to gmail.google.com. It is no more difficult than navigating to any other web site.

In order to process the volume of email that I receive each day, it is more efficient to be Notified when any new email arrives in my Inbox, so I can process it immediately. This is the part that has been difficult to accomplish with Ultimate Edition because none of the Gmail Notification tools seem to work 100%.

Since my Gmail Inbox is quite large, there were hundreds of messages that were marked Unread. After I selected the entire Gmail Inbox and marked all the messages Read, the Mail Notification icon now displays the correct number of Unread messages. There must be a limit on how many Unread messages can be in the Inbox before the number becomes meaningless.

I saw a link to a site that had a script and instructions on how to make Gmail the default Email client in Ubuntu. I want to be able to click on the Mail Notification icon and bring up my Gmail Inbox, but instead, if brings up the Gmail Send a Note screen.

Could someone check out the following link and suggest how to correct this problem.

I retyped my mail-adr. in user controlpanel, and and now I get notifications at PM's again. :)

I agree that having a bookmark is a simple and quick way to get to my Gmail Inbox. I like being Notified when new messages have been received, with a Sound and an Indicator of how many. Mail Notification does that. I just need to figure out how to launch the Gmail Inbox from that icon, as well. I checked the box that runs the Mail Reader when you click on the Mail Notification icon. When Evolution was the default Mail program, it would launch Evolution. I want the Gmail Inbox to be the default, but the script I installed launches Send a Message, instead. I want to change that.
