Tiny menu icons (SOLVED)

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.3

Tiny menu icons (SOLVED)

Postby D1Knight » Sun Jul 26, 2009 4:16 am

First off, another fine-excellent release! Thank you to TheeMahn, Admins and Testers. O.K. now my (noob) question, the menu icons are too tiny, how do I change the size of them? Thank you for any help. :D

It is too bad about Xfce & XBMC, oh well, off to the repos. I know it is still way early, but will Ultimate Edition 2.4 be GNOME only? Ultimate Edition 2.5 or Christmas 2009, any plans to include in those releases the Xfce and XBMC options (x86)? I thank you kindly. <BREW>

Hi Amir,

Thank you for the info about Ultamatix, I had forgotten about using it to make the install easier, maybe next time. Do you have advice for changing the size of the menu icons? I appreciate you and your help. Peace. :)

Hi D1Knight .

First you welcome, second I thank you for you appreciation for me <BREW>
that worm my hart to know that, as all the team here on that wonderful site as well.
about the menu to tell you the true I did not had the time yet to look on this issue sorry.
but if I will come up with solution,
I will update you/one of the team will do it faster then me ;)
have A nice day D1Knight and thank you again.

from quick look on the issue you can edit the menu :

Open gconf-editor, press Alt+F2, write "gconf-editor" and press OK.

Code: Select all
I gconf-editor go under
/apps/panel/objects

Now look in all the subfolders, and look for one where the "object_type" is set to "menu-object" or "menu-bar".
If you find a "menu-object" just scoll down to the key "use_custom_icon", set to True, and then edit the key "custom_icon" and insert the path to the icon you want to use.
If you find a "menu-bar" then change the key "object-type" to "menu-object" and then scoll down to the key "use_custom_icon", set to True, and then edit the key "custom_icon" and insert the path to the icon you want to use. This will replace your menu with an icon.
Done.. Does it work?

As an alternative, try this:

1 – Locate the folder of the theme you are currently using. Example : the folder of the theme “Nuvola” in a standard gnome installation under Ubuntu is ‘/usr/share/themes/Nuvola’.

2 – Find the file ‘gtkrc’. If you find more than one gtkrc, choose the one that is “compatible” with the gtk version in use. Example: I used the file ‘/usr/share/themes/Nuvola/gtk-2.0/gtkrc’.

3 – Open the file ‘gtkrc’ with a (simple) text editor (or right click, choose scripts then gedit-root)
Example:’ sudo gedit /usr/share/themes/Nuvola/gtk-2.0/gtkrc ‘.

4 – Edit the line whose first field is gtk-icon-sizes so that the panel-menu field has the icon size that you desire. Example : I modified the line that reads : gtk-icon-sizes = “panel-menu=16,16″
into
gtk-icon-sizes = “panel-menu=24,24″.

5 – Save the gtkrc file and exit.

6 – Logout from your desktop. Log into your desktop. The icons in the menu should have a largerer size.

Worked for me - but I prefer the smaller size ;)

Hope it helps. :)

Great How To Moebius <BREW>[/quote]

Love to take the credit, but I've simply tested and modified a Debian post to suit. That scar on my neck is really starting to etch (play on words) ;)

Hello Amir and Moebius,

I thank you both kindly for your help & suggestions. :) I chose Moebius's "How to", this seemed to be more Noob user friendly (IMHO). Moebius, your process worked perfectly and easy too. Thanks again! :D Now I can see the icons like in Ultimate Edition 2.2 (just right for me). <BREW> Peace.
